once i do get this respec--- any suggestions? i was purely lightning but i struggled with immunities pretty bad. i might end up going back with that though...
I used to run pure Hydra as my go-to for new ladder seasons, simply because it can handle everything by itself in a fairly chill and safe but still speedy manner. And can later proceed to easily farm most things worth farming early on.
For your full play through though, you will encounter some immunes that you'll need to babysit your merc for while he takes them down (getting him geared is really the priority). But that's true for pretty much every sorc build, especially single-element.
That "wall" won't disappear until you get a sunder charm for your (main) element which, if you're on RotW, won't happen until you start clearing TZs and heralds, along with some -res to make real use of it.

Orb + Hydra is a solid starter build. I ran this for a long time. What level are you? This should be good enough to farm Andariel. It will definitely fall off by end of act 3 hell.
I had 20pts Frozen Orb, few points in Cold Mastery and rest went to Hydra and synergies.
Respecced to full fire once I found fire sunder (Pre rotw) + 3 piece Tal Rasha.

I was able to respec and I did a blizzball and it seems to be so much better!
I like the fast gameplay of a single target skill such as Fireball but having the option of using blizzard helps a ton!
gear wise im slacking. i do have Tal rashas Mask and Ormus robes. Spirit on a Crystal Sword for now, ancients pledge on a shield.
upgraded banes Authority Belt, Tearhaunch Greaves and some gloves that have good resistance.
as far as jewlery, im using manalds heal, a Caster Ring, and my amulet is just basic with FCR. I definitely think my cast rate is too high because I blow through mana

also Insight merc, but you can also make in a act1 merc if your act 2 dies to often cause he wants to facetank all

If you are open to the idea of doing some trades to buy upgrades, you may consider doing some Key hunting. Keys are selling fast currently (at least for PC players), and could give you a nice boost towards those desired gears.
