What to do if MOTIVATION fades?

This game is highly addictive. Do you really like playing or do you need to go to rehab?

If it's the first, try SSF. Suddenly the game's a challenge again and you'll be excited about rare trash!

I've switched to playing Diablo 3 RoS. So far so good, as the game got lots of significant improvements in comparison to D2 family of games. Dual leveling system feels especially unique. There is a chance I'd upgrade to D2 RotW sometime in the future, but there is no ETA for that, as the last Blizzard's upgrade screw-up back in December of 2025, that forced me to try D3 in the first place, is still fresh in my Memory.

I lost my intrinsic motivation for d2r a long time ago, and it only rarely pops up, like recently with the new Warlock class.

My long-term extrinsic motivation is to complete the chronicle

I realized yesterday that each of the latent sunders have a Chronicle entry. RIP my chronicle.

That's why my barb has been reworked into a dedicated shard-runner today.

The different rainbow facets also all have their own entries. Though those are still a lot easier to find I guess.

Play offline ssf, you'll start to treasure every drop

Online I have like 5 or 6 Enigma, 5 Infinity, 6 Last Wish, a few Death, Grief, Breath of the Dying. Etc
I'm not rolling in runes (I have about 10

Jah) but it started to become trivial to just get anything i wanted so I moved to offline ssf where getting that first Spirit

Crystal Sword felt like a huge accomplishment and it really ignited my love for the game again

SSF is a nice way to slow down your progression and enjoy that game in another way.
You could even play online, but with SSF rules so you can change your mind later and build your char with stuff you have.

Right, I'm no more playing that game, so I'm not the best to give you advice.

OP, I came to that years and years ago. What keeps me going is my Zealer. Level 90 and has full wardrobe of gear to swap around. I literally do gear swap out for each organ hunt, and another one with Ubers. What keeps me going is one simple thing, this character which I find the most fun to play still has so much room for improvement.

This actually causes me to look at other characters to improve efficiency in farming keys. For now that is a Warlock, for now it is the Warlock I am focused on improving.

Along the way I find items to improve my Java & Bowzon, to which in time I will switch to them to farm cows or Arcane. The changeup improves motivation to continue.

The fact I am on NL, these characters are old, and mostly all well geared means I can continue. If I had to do a full start over from scratch a la Ladder....I would quit this game and uninstall lol.
