Desert Mercenary's Blessed Aim vs. Rogue Scout's Inner Sight

No data yet

Description

Suppose a scenario where I'm playing a character who just needs to land hits more often, not necessarily more painfully (i.e. a proc-based character). And also suppose that a frontline tank is available in the form of
Bind Demon
. Assuming Level 80, would it be more beneficial to hire a
Blessed Aim
mercenary or go with a Rogue Scout?

I never actually used the merc's
Blessed Aim
before, but my understanding is that it boosts the affected characters' Attack Rating by a percentage. On the other hand, Rogue Scout's
Inner Sight
reduces enemies' Defense and thus makes it easier to land hits. (Also recalling that fiery Iron Wolf's
Enchant
also boosts your AR, but that is not considered an option as I hate Iron Wolf's voice acting.) The merc needs to hold an Insight weapon for me in any case.

What would lead to more successful hits?

(p.s.: I kinda want to try
Deckard Cain
... here's a shot.)

Inner Sight
is stronger and totally unaffected by your actual attack rating, but more unreliable. It's always the best choice when you have very low AR, effectively removing AR/Defense from the to hit mechanic. High IAS makes your Rogue cast it very frequently.

Blessed Aim
has a huge range as soon as it is activated, but sometimes it takes a while until it gets triggered.

Iron Wolf
Enchant
is also a very good option and once cast, you don't have to care about your mercs' position anymore. It's the most reliable, your Iron Wolf will have you enchanted as soon as you start fighting.

Both rely strongly on your attack rating. Low rating means low improvement.

For short runs, or if you don't using Enigma, I would go Iron Wolf. For longer runs one of the other two.

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys,
Ral
,
Hel
, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than
Pul
(with the named exceptions).

My "Resurrected" trades can be converted to RotW! Just message me.

I had no idea, but that makes sense. The AI's decision to cast
Inner Sight
has to come between attacks.

I'm leaning toward the Rogue Scout option right now as I doubt my alt's AR will be particularly high. The gear options don't really permit much dedication to AR...

Good point! I've read about this trick, but I never actually put it to use before. Perhaps I will give it a shot.

To be precise, the Rogues'
Inner Sight
is just another attack. That's why it is affected by IAS.

If you don't want to deal with
Demon Limb
's repair... you can use Obedience and kill some weak monster before starting your farm ;-)

And with Act 2 Merc, Infinity is better than
Blessed Aim
for you hit chance (
Conviction
reduces monster defense ;-) )

I totally glazed over that. I could go for a
Conviction
bound demon, too.

Now I'm wondering if I should go for a
Blessed Aim
desert mercenary with an Infinity plus a
Fanaticism
bound demon. This adds the burden of acquiring an Infinity, but this might be the optimal approach...

EDIT: Alternatively, I could go for a Rogue Scout with a Faith bow, plus a
Conviction
bound demon. Gah. GAH. Too many options!
