my experience with uber tristram and why attack rating sucks

Description

I've done probably 30
Uber Tristram
runs total - online and offline. Which isn't a ton but it's not 0.
I've done it on the following classes/builds
Phoenix Strike
Mosaic sin
Dragon Tail
Mosaic sin
Smite
paladin
Frenzy
barbarian
Whirlwind
barbarian
Apocalypse
warlock
Fireball
sorc (with
Bone Prison
)

IMO they really should do something with attack rating because it is SO much easier to do
Uber Tristram
on Mosaic sin or
Smite
than on barb. I did
Enchant
+ angelic combo on barb and have done multiple runs, it is just so much more time consuming because of
Baal
's
Chilling Armor
and missing a ton. It's super annoying feeling like you need 15-20k AR instead of martial arts finishers or
Smite
or any spell cast that just automatically hits.

I don't know what the answer is, defense needs to matter but goodness attack rating is one of those things that just makes doing higher end stuff on melee so much more miserable most of the time.

bar is kind of weak in boss fight.

I build my bar with only 1 affix + accuracy and use it to fight regular monster and elite monsters.

trav,
Key
, essence

it is weak point against uber boss, yes..

Please be aware, all my trade is in non ladder d2r. Not warlock.

I did a number of runs with a decently geared smiter. Then I went in with my
Frenzy
barb and holy hells it was a whole different story. Way more difficult.

Old man still killing demons and yelling at clouds.

What level are the characters you're using? I can't remember the formula for attack rating versus defense rating, but I do remember my shorthand understanding being that character level vs monster level has a bigger impact than anything else.

Aren't the bosses in
Uber Tristram
level 95 or something? EDIT: I looked it up; they're level 110.

ya
Smite
has always been the most retarded skill- 1 point in a lvl 1 skill, 6 frame attack, and take on the hardest monsters in the game...

That is a bit of a tough one.
Yes, AR (or lack thereof) sucks and can completely screw you over on RNG.

At the same time, if my barb got a guaranteed hit on everything all the time, it would plow through ubers harder (and safer) than a horde of smiters combined. Same for my bowzon.
So..that's not really the answer either.

For the most part, the original approach felt pretty good in that guaranteed hits really only existed in things that came with plenty of weaknesses to make up for it. E.g.
Smite
being reliable and cheap to be safe with but comparatively slow/low dmg given some gear for the alternatives, casters always hitting but getting no leech/being more squishy and so on. The zon buff played fine with that.

Mosaic then completely broke that for obvious reasons as sins got buffed to never miss with a
Charge
up and then got Mosaic thrown at them to abuse the f out of that.

And now warlocks come along and get physical-style attacks with all of the leech and other goodies that brings, only to get guaranteed hits, insane bonus scaling, fcr-speed (+no slowdown on cold) and all that "normally just for real spells" stuff on top. They simply combine the best of both worlds while keeping essentially 0 of the downside of either, resulting in a completely broken class in more ways than one. The only thing missing is for things like echoing to also proc attack-based stuff, just to throw in even the last advantage and to make it even more ridiculous.
