1. Click on Register (anywhere) to get to the account register formular.
2. "Question if Battlenet or Singleplayer Character is missing."
3. Check account profile after registering.
4. BattleNet is set to "No (Singleplayer".
Anything else to add:

This is working as intended so as not to confuse people joining for trading purposes.
As you've found, it can be set later as a cosmetic field in the profile settings.
