Description

We are doing okay, rocking a
Terror
zone. Suddenly the control becomes clunky and telegraphed, in a couple of second it says "your connection has been interrupted" and logs out. You log back in next to your body and see that a couple of hours' worth of XP is gone.
That happens to anybody often?
I"m not sure it's most frequent way how I die, but certainly the biggest setback on xp gain...

I feel ya. This is known as a lag Death. It's been a situation on Battle Net from it's inception. The best things to try are:

Use a Wired Connection: If possible, connect your PC or console directly to your router with an Ethernet cable. Wi-Fi connections are more susceptible to interference and packet loss, which is the main cause of "Your connection has been interrupted" disconnects.
Optimize Your Router:

Restart your router and modem to clear the cache and reset the connection.
Place your router in an open space, away from obstructions.
Update your router's firmware.
If you must use Wi-Fi, ensure you are using a 5GHz network rather than 2.4GHz for a faster, more stable signal.

Minimize Network Congestion:

Close other applications or devices that are using significant bandwidth on your network, such as streaming services or large downloads.
Schedule large downloads or system updates (e.g., Windows updates) for times when you are not gaming.

Check Server Status and Location:

Use the in-game chat command /FPS to monitor your latency and frame rate. High latency (ping) indicates a delay in communication with the server.
Ensure you are connecting to a game server geographically close to your physical location.

Contact Your ISP: If you continue to experience high latency or frequent disconnections, there might be a routing issue or problem with your service. Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for advanced troubleshooting or to check for regional service outages.

Yeah, it happened to me as well, but on hardcore...

I can only recommend not to use Wi-Fi and instead use a cable connection.

The same interruption has happened to me multiple times on my wired and wireless home network. I traced it down to the Internet service provider's modem that needed to be reset by powering off, then in a few seconds powering on. While you're at it I also suggest doing the same for your router. This helped every time but once, when there was a problem on the service provider side.

No matter what you do and how good your Internet connection is, it will always happen. It's a networking bug / an issue with blizzards servers. They did not fix this in the past 20 years, they won't fix it in the future. It's part of the experience...

I've got on SCNL
- Mosaics, Cures, and Hustles
- GG crafted amulets
- Perfect uniques
- Bases

Well said. Couldn't have spoken a more solid truth myself...

I think the online issues are being caused by overloaded servers. The D2r game sales have been slowing for some time, and are now almost non existent. As a result I suspect Blizzard has been reducing the number of d2r servers for each region based on its calculated number of players, and reallocating a number of those server to other games. This forces the remaining D2r players to overcrowd the leftover servers which affects both per server bandwidth allocation, and server response time. This is of course is just my take on the continuing degradation of online game performance.

You forgot the 5th thing which is better than any of those options, which is to play offline single player.

Network congestion should not be a factor (especially in this day and age) and if for whatever reason it is you should contact your ISP and tear them a new asshole IMO. It's a problem with Blizzard and the game if you ask me. Maybe if we were still on dial-up, but today, I don't buy it.

I have 4 (four) Samsung S24 smartphones and two laptops in my house all of which use WiFi - plus a Smart TV that also uses WiFi plus Netflix+Prime+Crave and not once that I'm aware of has any of the aforementioned devices experienced or caused any issues due to network congestion. Not to mention shithead kids in my house constantly downloading unnecessary games & crap on half those devices.

Blizzard and the game is the issue I'm betting. I've seen it with other games too - Super Smash Bros Ultimate on Nintendo Switch online is practically unplayable as opposed to local multi-player. Meanwhile any game on Roblox or Counterstrike plays 100x better.

Valid points though, just my 2 cents on that one particular aspect and my rant at Blizzard + certain other game devs.

Lol I lost an 82 HC blizzard sorc with Doom, 2/20
Circlet
, CoH and a Spirit
Monarch
that exact same way (falling asleep at the wheel + careless TP) couple weeks ago. Never play HC while drunk, high, or extremely tired (basically any of the same conditions that would prohibit you from driving).

And also never lost a HC char due to lag as of yet (knock on wood).
