Hi to all the Pala nerds!

I haven't played Palas a lot. So it is really hard for me to determine if a shield is worth keeping/trading. The possible combinations of lvlreq - statsreq - 3/4os - ar/dmg automod - (non)etheral - block - defense are just too many...

Some basics are easy. Everything with good block, 40+ar und 4os has always good value. And for 3os the etheral elite shields with high ar are very sought after. But I'd like to understand it a bit more. For example how much block are players willing to
Sacrifice
for a good dmg/def/ar value? Where are dmg automods prefered over ar automods? Questions over questions... 🙂

If you don't mind, I'd love to get some evaluation on the usefullness of the following Pala shields. It would be awesome to get some arguments why or why not a shild is (not) valuable. And maybe we can have some discussion on shields of compareable value; like in what kind of situation would one or the other be better, playstyle preferences and things like that.

Already a big "thank you" to everyone willing to help to bring some clarification in this blur of Pala shield properties!

Yes, anything with +45 resistances is valuable. The only question is how much, and for how long will you sell it—a week, a month, a year?

Secondly, when composing runewords, some stats are always randomized—this has a much greater impact on effectiveness than the base stats of shield.

IMHO, it makes sense to think about this if you have a level 99 paladin and a ton of runes like
Ber
.

And then, you can always create a mule character and drop these shields there.

That 4os Vortex Shieldis a keeper for sure. Perfect roll (+45) has definite value.

Going beyond that, if you already are able to hit the 75% max block chance through other gear (
Guardian Angel
, etc) or dexterity points (for example, if you already need to invest 136 dex to use a
Phase Blade
which brings you to 75%) then the
Vortex Shield
becomes best choice IMO.

Personally if it were me I'd use it even if I had to
Sacrifice
a little bit to only hit 66-67 block or so, just because I myself like high def and the perfect roll is very enticing.

Only thing better IMO would be an upped and
Um
'd HoZ, especially if youre playing FoH where +skills have a huge effect on your damage output.

Elite 4os (or 0os since you can Lazurk for 4os) shields either ethereal or non-ethereal are good to keep if they have 42+ all res. Ethereal for Exile and non-ethereal for spirit. They retain value and are easy to sell. Big market for these since they are mainly pvm. 44-45 All res will command MUCH higher prices.
Elite 3os shields with good res are used for Dragon. However, since this is not a very popular build they take longer to sell and for not as much. But they do sell if non-ethereal.

Shields with enhanced damage and attack rating are for pvp. You need perfect/near perfect rolls on BOTH mods to sell them. 0os or 4os for the pvp shields since these are usually filled with jewels and not runewords. Most pvp leagues require ethereal items to be either auto-rep or indestructible and since runewords aren't commonly used, ethereal shields are excluded since they can't meet the league rules.

For pvp shields they do not need to be only elite. There are many low level pvp brackets so normal, exceptional, and elite shield bases are sought after if the auto-mods roll well.

Edit - If it were up to me, I would keep:
  • All Res - #2 and #4 for self use/levelling
  • All Res - #7 sell or end-game self use
  • Enhanced Damage - #2 sell or self use (if you pvp)
Then I'd
Charsi
the rest. Again just my personal opinion.

I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys,
Perfect Gems
, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.
