Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."
I joined a free game to drop stuff (as one does) many months ago, and after dropping, I walked down to Akara and noticed that south of Cain was a Ber laying on the Ground. I walked to it and said in chat "who left this fkn Ber here?!" and one of the 4-5 others just said something like "oh it was me, enjoy".
I took it and thanked him lol. Was wild that no one else was frantically grabbing at it.

Nothing for me! I would rather trade which promotes a net-positive for both parties. Or give away for free myself, as I've done on this website. I sincerely enjoy finding nice items on my own.
As someone who hosted his fair share of these games, the correct answer is:
Take whatever you can use and take whatever your buddies can use to give to them.
More often than not, these games actually don't get too many people joining them. Especially when they're announced here, rather than public free stuff games in the game lobby. And as the person who creates them, my goal is to move everything I drop to a new home so it doesn't just go to waste (= Charsi). If everyone is being nice and just takes one, all that does is make the rest of the stuff disappear into the ether as I won't realistically pick up the remaining stuff again to make a new game to do the same thing 10 times over.
So yeah, speaking as the guy who dropped everything:
You are more than welcome to grab as much as you want.
Given, if the game is full and there's 7 people fighting over every drop and you already got everything because you're just faster, feel free to ignore the next few drops so they get some, too. But other than that, have at it.

I never join them, but I do join low level Normal games to drop things off and leave. I don't go for free things. Usually enjoy self-found.
JST; Playing this season; On and Off.
I am joining free games often, for both, droping and grabing items - but I am sorry I was not in this one
After 20+ years of SSF, I'll snag some stuff but feel a little bad for a short time, then remember that I've never found a Griffon's not too bad for long.
I also like jumping into normal games where somebody is starting out and dropping some of the good low sets and uniques.

The guy who dropped over 200 Annihilus in a single game... Might have been more. There were literally Annis everywhere in the Rogue's camp. Me and two others tried to go through them and find the better ones, and then we went and dropped a bundle of them in Free items games with more people.TheDoo wrote: 1 month agoShare your experience with some of the most ridiculous or funniest 'free items' you have experienced or seen!![]()
And then there's the whole bundle of items, where less than a week after i managed to trade for an item i wanted, i get one in a free game.
Though my "best" freebie was in a trade game. Someone wanted Sur and was offering a Ber for each. And i had recently found one single Sur and would have much better use of a Ber. And after trade, the buyer asked if i had more, i replied that nah, never found anything else as high.
They ask "you have Enigma".
"Nope".
And they drop a Jah "Make one."
That's a classy level of nice.
Pretty much any of the alternatives depending on situation. What would YOU DO in this situation?
Usually, whenever i play much(ie. not like this summer and fall so far), i normally enter those freebie games and drop 5-10 items 1-3 times per evening, while checking if there's anything i need on the Ground, and if there's a lot of people in the game, ask for it if there's something specific i'm looking for right then.
Free games are a pillar of the D2 and D2R community, IMO.
a few weeks a go I made a "Free trash anni" game and dropped about 25 mid/low anni I farmed on my smiter
I am always sad when I see "anni shop" game, even more when I see what people want for some of these annis :-ONamster17 wrote: 1 month agoa few weeks a go I made a "Free trash anni" game and dropped about 25 mid/low anni I farmed on my smiter
Experienced players know it is not necessary to buy low/min annis, so only new players, who have nearly nothing, buy there.. I wish all new players find "free anni" game sooner than "shop anni" game.
the amount of trash anni in my stash lol, would be cool to be able to cube 3 anni to having chances of it rolling higher lol.Namster17 wrote: 1 month agoa few weeks a go I made a "Free trash anni" game and dropped about 25 mid/low anni I farmed on my smiter
I've only joined free item games to drop free stuff and leave. In one game I tossed a bunch of annis on the Ground and then was surprised to see them start popping like popcorn around the Rogue Encampment stash chest. Since everyone already had an anni they couldn't pick them up until they returned the one they were using to their shared stash.
I dropped a few items in a free items game today and saw a GC on the Ground everyone ignored: A Sharp Grand Charm of Sustenance (9/70/23). That was maybe the most valuable item in this game (I would guess worth about an Ohm or even more)

I drop free stuff in the free item lobby games all the time. Basically any equipment that somebody might want but is worth less than an Ist or Gul. I'm too lazy to take the time to set up a trade for smaller stuff like that.
I actually think it can be a lot of fun when I get people to frantically run over and pick up whatever it was I dropped. I always drop the sets and uniques unidentified, because that usually gets more of a reaction out of people. Sometimes they will pick it up, run over to Cain, and then drop it again identified.
The highest value item I've ever dropped was maybe an unidentified Skin of the Vipermagi, and that seemed to make the recipient very happy.
I remember once I dropped a bunch of low-to-mid runewords like a terribly rolled Oath, and people went nuts over them. Everyone in the game was following my character closely in the rouge camp after that.
I always pick up Junk Jewels I see lying around in free games, because I either craft them or trade them in bulk.

PS: loot in this game has always been first come, first served. Unless TheDoo's screenshot is from a private game hosted by somebody I knew, I would have picked up all of those griffon's eyes lightning fast.
