Dear all,
I hava a Javazon wearing a Griffon with a facet in it, 20/19 it is. Base was 16/14 i guess. Its ok, dont have the budget for a 25/20.
Now i have another griffon laying around, 19/12 and a facet -5/+4. Should i socket it? Will there be a noticable difference? Better get a 5/5 (quite expensive for the missing +1) or should i try to get a 19/14 griffon and then socket?
The 5/4 facet is not that valuable in NL nor is the 19/12. Outcome would be 24/16 in comparison to 20/19.
Thx for your ideas!

It will be better against high lightres enemies and marginally worse against low lightres enemies (if you dont have any other source of -ELR, it will be around the same against hell Baal for example). However, depending on your IAS, i'd consider an IAS jewel there too (like if you use titans + 20ias gloves + highlords).
I myself have not tested it but as far as I know minus enemy lightning resistance has on average more effect than the plus to lightning damage.
I would also not recommend buying a -5/+5 if you are not looking for "perfection" because the price/performance ratio of a -5/+4 is much better.
Btw, in case you want to spend a Jah for a -5/+5 anyway, I have one on offer

It also depends on your other gear. Do you have other light facets on your gear? Does your Merc wield Infinity?
I will assume you have no other facets, your Merc uses Infinity, and that you melt all non-light immunes anyways.
Vs. Light immunes your sunder will reduce them to 95% res. Infinity from Merc reduces by 17%, i.e to 78%.
Now, if you change from 20/19 to 24/16, the damage on those will change from 1.19*(1-0.58) = 0.4998 to 1.16*(1-0.54) = 0.5336 or, relatively speaking by 6.76%
If you socket a 5/5 facet instead, you would increase the damage to 1.17*(1-0.54) = 0.5382 or in relative terms by 7.68% - slightly better than the "budget" variant.
This whole calculation is for immunes. For non immunes the increase will be lower and for enemies with low res your damage could even decrease.
Let me present you with another option:
If you keep you old Griffon and put on a 4os Monarch with 4* 5/4 facets, the damage would increase to 1.33*(1-0.34) = 0.8778 or, in trelative terms, by 75.6% - minus the loss of damage from whatever offensive bonus your current shield offers.
If I were you and I would want to boost my damage, I would go for this facetted shield, instead of marginally upping the Griffon. This almost doubles your damage and not only increases it by less than 7%.

Using standard equipment for Javazon, I vote for @uuee suggestion to use an IAS jewel

Dear All,
thx for your answers. So indeed, the gear as pretty much as described. Titans, Highlords, Phoenix, Thundergods and sometimes Razortail (still dont know which i prefer). CoH, LoH, Raven and a dual leech ring. Also there is of course a torch and anni, and some plain light skillers (3 as i remember). and the sunder.
So i could go for the shield with 4 semi perfect facets (5/4 and 4/5) and also try the 15 ias jewel in the griffons.
And yes, she melts everything down, but not as fast as what i already saw in P8 games baals minions. Pretty much one shot and everything was dead instantly. I asked the guy how much dmg she makes, he answered "enough". Well thx for this humble answer, hope one day i will be also such a big shot making "enough" dmg.
Would a Fortitude armor make any difference? right now she has the + 200 for demons/undead for CoH and of course the +2 skill.
i think a 18/18 shield with Phoenix on switch should also keep me in the green mana-wise.
Thx again!

You need Infinity on your merc.
Not sure you can one shot a P8 Baal wave even with the best stuff in game.

If you want max damage output and slice through mobs and bosses in P8 games, the PS Mosaic Sin is your girl

Hi,
ok, let it have been 2 shots, but it was still melting
my merc has Infinity, but the calculation for the faceted shield makes me think. I heard already from another guy, 20/20 JMoD makes a big difference. but well, if i would have the money for a 20/20 JMoD i would also have the money for a perfect Griffon and some nicer skillers.
So budget it is.
Mosaic Sin is of course an option, but somehow its just not mine. i tried it, nah...
Btw. if someone is interested in some really nice Mosaic GTs, i happen to have a pair or two.
i will try the 18/18 shield. which will be probably a JMoX.

Best,
For javone. you can count -1 resistance = 5
Basically, 5/3 is stronger than 4/5
Only some rare case that you will choose skill damage over -resistance.
and jmod = 4 socket Monarch for pve cases.
And there are difference for your play style,
1p , non- Terror, speed run
1p, Terror zone, a1 cow
1p, Terror zone, a5
uber
8p
You can optimize it with different scenario, 1p case, non Terror, best shield is 2 socket craft which is very hard to achieve.
For real practical use case, if you can reach -43+ resistance, for 1p nonterror,
-5/5 and -3/5(almost cheapest in useable category) have same performance. That's why you can use 2 socket with perfect jewel to have much performance in 1p. Meaning more defence

These days, I don't need that much Perfect Skull, it is less encourage to pay in Perfect Skull but it will treat slightly better than Perfect Gems.

Since you are playing on NL and not SP you don't need to upgrade at all, unless ofc you are gonna play const. in a p8 party!
I do a few cow or keys runs every now and then and she melts everything even without Griffons or with full MF gear on (like everything swapped except for Titans+full mf charms). The only thing that really makes a difference is Titans but even with something like TStrokes you would be completely fine and you would wreck everything in no time (in < p5). However, with TStrokes - change is noticeable (not humongous but still somewhat noticeable even on p1).
I would personally say it's better to keep that facet and wait until you find or get some better Griffons (or something else) if you really want to go for the [near] "perfect" gear or if you want to sell it eventually; but again, by playing on lower players count, it's not needed at all. You can literally do anything without any problems ( Baal runs, farm keys, cows, do TZs). I also didn't use Infinity on her and even then I did, for example, Diablo Clone many times pretty easily and fast. She even did Ubers once (a very long time ago est. 1st year of D2R), but that was completely another story (without Griffs, Enigma/Forti, Infinity, Dracs, TGods, T+A...) but took ages -- literally hours!
Javazon was and still is completely OP and will always be meta build and I bet you, on p1, you can definitely go thru game without too much sweat completely naked using only decent Javs and charms until 42 then switching to Titans. Literally. You can do the very same with like Fire or Cold Sorc but there you don't even need a weapon to do it.
So all in all, whatever you feel the best fits you (for example if you would really like to see 'bigger numbers' or the facet's color looks nicer), go for it. For the part "will I see the significant difference" - NO, no you won't.
Edit: P.S. If you want to try @vued's idea you can probably find 4x 3/3 light facets extremely cheap, probably for couple of Ists in total and shove them in regular ass 4os Monarch. That boost alone would give you the idea of a bridge between budget gear (which Griffs are not btw) and "enough" dmg, so you can relatively predict how it would look when fully uped.

Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."
That's true, even 1p .
If you can 1 hit kill, there is no difference if you add more defense or more damage.
Because you wont need that many life or you dont need more damage.
walk speed / Teleport, maybe, more damage, more defense, no

Correct. Even 5/4 or 5/3 are so cheap that it's totally acceptable to pt them in a regular Monarch, you don't need a JMoX.TheDoo wrote: 1 month agoSince you are playing on NL and not SP you don't need to upgrade at all, unless ofc you are gonna play const. in a p8 party!

If this is too squishy and you want more defense, consider a Head Hunter's Glory and put 3x 5/4 in it or even a Moser's Blessed Circle with 2x 5/4. Those are excellent budget options and the difference between them compared to a 20/20 JMoD is rather small considering the price difference.
As a reference, I made a 26/26 fire Crystal Sword for my FB sorc and bought 5/4, 4/5, and 4/4 fire facets for ~ Pul each. The whole thing costed less around 2 Ist's and and gave me a better understanding of game play. I later switched to a Phoenix Monarch and dropped the sword again for the lack of fcr but it was a totally valid option and a huge boost in damage compared to other standard gear.

Moser's Blessed Circle is actually very good shield.vued wrote: 1 month agoIf this is too squishy and you want more defense, consider a Head Hunter's Glory and put 3x 5/4 in it or even a Moser's Blessed Circle with 2x 5/4. Monarch is 4 os
JMOD is 4 os + 1 affinx
Moser is 2 os + AR + Block + ED
Craft is 2 os + AR + LR + block +craftthings
For attack, 4 os 4 facet is good enough, even though in 1p craft shield is best but it is impossible to achieve.
It is very rare case that amazon use Fury need block physical from 1p monsters. Especially, for cow lv, 4os Monarch is good enough
And yes, it is good test to get cheap facet to run before you buy something expensive. That I also experience some of my build with 4/3 3/5 x 4 very cheap facet to have exact performance vs 5/5 x 4
