Unfortunately not. I've tried that, but the merc's Poison Nova is overriding my own too often.
But Plague is a very good choice for Magezons, Sorceresses, Auradins, Trapsins etc.
Never tried on Poison Nova, but on my orb MF sorc, that's a nice QoL.

Isn't Infinity's Conviction (with Act 2 Merc) much better than Plague's Lower Resist (with Act 5 Merc) for elemental Builds? 
(Unless you're looking for a cheap alternative...or want to explicitly fight Uber Mephisto - who negates Infinity's Conviction)

But a level 13-17 Cleansing aura is a big QoL improvement. And the Barb is a better tank overall. All in all it depends on your needs, playstyle and wealth.
I don't use Conviction on my merc. I prefer Plague for QoL.
Sadly, it's hard to get a good roll so it's expensive.
