A few months ago i made a forum post about using a Frenzy barb to clear ubers.
I've been playing for 4-5 months now and basically all i did in this game(after my first two character's playthrough) was to build as many chars i could to do ubers.
I've built the:
Ranked by best overall efficiency/longevity(how hard was it to die)
Smite paladin
Mosaic Phoenix Strike assassin
Fury druid
Dual Dreamdin
Frenzy barb
Fireball/ Meteor Sorceress
Physical Zealadin
Dual Dream Sorc
Out of all these characters.... None were able to clear ubers with a consistency ive been hoping for.
My Fireball sorc failed because the merc couldn't stay alive(even with Life Tap Wand + BOs) and my fireballs couldn't do enough damage to put meph into hit recovery therefore I needed to spend half an hour each time to Revive my merc to kill the bosses.
My physical builds always suffered because of AR issues(mainly the Frenzy barb, zealadin, dreamdin) and cuoldn't hit the bosses. The ones with higher ar(around 12k) hit the bosses but were demolished by Baal's mana draining and physical immune monsters.
Laster, my Phoenix Strike assassin and smiter paladin were able to kill the ubers... 80% of the time.
The Mosaic sin was lacking against Mephisto and Baal, which he couldn't drain(due to their extremely low drain effectiveness).
The smiter was the most well rounded and he was fine against all of the uber bosses except Mephisto, and he sometimes died because of low res(around 25% lightning and 30% cold res after meph's Conviction aura).
I've done around 30+ uber runs. Someone, PLEASE help me figure this out, i don't want to keep dying for the same reason :/

OP
One thing to add that i didn't mention in the main post, I don't think gearing is the issue. I'm not going to write the gearing for all of the characters but what im saying is that I have experimented with many different gear setups, cheap and expensive and honestly not too many of them could even kill the ubers once, let alone consistently
Does your smiter have enough spare skillpoints to level Conviction to 21? It will help against Mephisto.
If your smiter is at 25% Lres after Mephisto's Conviction, it IS a gearing problem. Do you use Salvation when fighting him? And do you have a source of Life Tap?
And never try to fight them all at once. This is bad.
I always try to lure mephi out and kill him first. When you enter the portal, hold left and stick to the wall. Walk down to the south west part of the map and lure Mephisto between the two houses. If you got his attention, step back immediately to the wall and fight him there. Activate Salvation for this fight and swap to Fanaticism after you killed mephi.
And never try to fight them all at once. This is bad.

Lets start with the smiter. That is the OG easy mode for ubers for a reason, but what were you struggling with? Like, is it damage output, survivability or what?
With a smiter, basically all you need is good lightning res, maybe some lightning absorb to deal with Meph. Once you get Life Tap up you are near enough immortal unless you are getting one-shotted by his lightning.
My smiter is level 94, roughly 2k health (3k after shouts). Max lightning res + thundergods Vigor the lightning still does a lot of damage, but once Life Tap is up from Dracs I dont need to drink any more full rejuv. I actually use Salvation as an aura for Meph. I know thats not the optimal play, but gives easy mode resists, then switch to Fanaticism for the others. Diablo and Baal dont present any concern
In terms of damage output, I am using Grief with HoZ (not upped) with max Holy Shield and max Smite. Use Gface and Gore Rider to get decent amount of crushing blow

Yeah, i guess it could be considered a gearing problem because i dont have enough res scs on him, what i meant in "gearing problem" was if i purposefully used an item in a slot where another alternative would've been much better, which i don't thnik i have.

I could try getting more points into Conviction, yeah i think that would help a ton against meph.Nekeyby wrote: 6 months agoDoes your smiter have enough spare skillpoints to level Conviction to 21? It will help against Mephisto.
Easy option is to prebuff Fade with Treachery then go after meph first. You can lure him away from the other two pretty easily and fight him 1-on-1. The Fade should last long enough to take him out. Baal and diablo you should be able to manage even if Fade wears off because meph will be down and his Conviction aura won't be an issue.wvgcswiglett wrote: 6 months agoYeah, i guess it could be considered a gearing problem because i dont have enough res scs on him...
I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys, Perfect Gems, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.

yeah i haven't prebuffed Fade, maybe i should start doing that...Knappogue wrote: 6 months agoEasy option is to prebuff Fade with Treachery then go after meph first. This wasn't an issue when i had Last Wish but i swapped that out for Grief for more damage...
Yeah this definitely will help my survivability, i was just a bit lazy to proc Fade, i guess you cant be lazy and ambitious at the same time :/
Just gotta ask yourself. What's more annoying, prebuffing Fade...or...dying?wvgcswiglett wrote: 6 months agoyeah i haven't prebuffed Fade, maybe i should start doing that...Knappogue wrote: 6 months agoEasy option is to prebuff Fade with Treachery then go after meph first. If you can't hit Baal because not enought AR, that's a gear problem.
For your Frenzy barb, simply use Howl to fear physical imunes away. Spam it everytimes they come close to you.
You also need mana leech against Baal.

Maybe I have overlooked it but as someone already asked: Do you fight each of them separately? This is crucial for survival in my opinion.
With my Zealer Pally so far I have no problems with Mephisto or Diablo (I do not use Fade). For Baal I have to switch to Smite to bring him down in a resaonable amount of time. I still want to see a Zealer Setup with which you can kill Baal with Zeal. I have ca. 7000 AR + Enchant with Demon Limb and by my lights it is not possible to increase this by an amount that would really make a difference while at the same time not loosing very much damage. But I am surely open for correction.

just use Salvation on meph with smiter so your light res is 300+, Meph dies very fast anyway.
i would use LW (if you have a LW which it sounded like you do) over Grief on ubers, it is really not a big difference in speed, and i like to have lifetap proccing faster.
you could use a wisp ring + Tgods to make it even more safe vs meph.

Frenzy Barb pretty much needs 10k+ AR at minimum BEFORE any Demon Limb buffs etc to reliably and consistently hit Ubers (especially Uber Baal with his Chilling Armour, he's probably the toughest one for Frenzy Barb if you ask me). My Frenzy Barb used to have more trouble with Uber Baal than Uber Meph and Diablo. Angelic Halo+ Angelic Wings is easy way to get this, which i still use for this build sometimes specifically for Uber fights. At the risk of stating the obvious, make sure your weapon mastery is maxed, and both Frenzy and Double Swing are maxed. It's also worth ditching Find Item and Grim Ward to invest those points into Taunt + Howl for the extra synergy damage to Frenzy & Berserk if u ask me. Horking is irrelevant for Ubers and largely counterproductive to a Frenzy barbs playstyle anyways (my experience).wvgcswiglett wrote: 6 months agoA few months ago i made a forum post about using a Frenzy barb to clear ubers.
For Baals physical immune summons, make sure you have a hard point in Berserk. You should also have a few points into Howl, because not only does it synergize with Berserk, you can use it to Howl away Baal's summons to effectively focus your attacks more on Baal. Act 5 Frenzy Merc equipped with Grief + Lawbringer also does a great job of shredding these summons and keeping them off you with the right positioning. For Uber Baal specifically this also works great because casting Decrepify on him (via the Lawbringer proc) seems to sort of "break" his AI and cause him not to Teleport or clone himself. Another thing for Uber Baal specifically is that it doesn't matter as much if Decrep overwrites Life Tap on him vs Uber Meph or Lilith.
If you're using CoH + Tgods on your Frenzy Barb for Uber Meph, once you have him killed consider zipping back to town quick and swapping to Duress and Blood crafted Belt. You don't need the overcapped res vs the other Ubers and the more CB & OW you can get the better. Plus, assuming you have Fade activated your resists vs any Ubers besides Meph should be a non-issue. That also brings up the point, if you're using a ton of res charms against Uber Meph, consider swapping those out for +max dmg / +AR charms vs the other ubers. Can be a hassle i know, but if you're having trouble this is what kinda helped me out.
Assuming you cant afford a Last Wish, Kingslayer is almost criminally underrated weapon vs Ubers (and even in general if u ask me). Grief + Kingslayer got me through many many Uber runs.

For Smiter Pally I'd suggest just filling your inventory up with res charms. Consider Chains of Honor or Um'd Guardian Angel if you can afford, personally I prefer the latter because it kinda saves skill points that you dont have to put into Resist Lightning and can be put towards maxing out Holy Shield, Defiance, or any number of other things. The "enhanced damage to demons" on CoH also doesnt work with Smite. Guardian Angel + Tgods pretty much makes you immune to lightning (keeping in mind you still have to account for Uber Meph Conviction).
+max dmg / +AR charms while useful to many attack builds are irrelevant to Smite, and in the case of Ubers my experience is that most anything other than res charms are as well (an argument can be made for skiller GC of vita/FHR).
If you can get your uncapped res to at least 240 (250-260 with Guardian Angel to keep your lightning res at 95% with Tgods equipped plus the lightning absorb) and proc Fade with Treachery you should be fine for res.

I am surprised to hear about Fury Druid. He is my safest Uber Killer (not fastest, but I don´t need merc and I don´t think I have ever died trying). And he is nothing extra special on gear- String of Ears, Gore Raiders, Dracs, Highlords, Raven, some yellow useless ring (it has literally nothing, not sure why I am even wearing that), Chains in Hellforge and BotD in Eth Giant Tresher. Only Item I would say is really sweet is Meta´s with +3 Fury.
