Origin Story
After over 20 years, I recently came back playing D2.
While leveling my Ama, I was lucky enough to grab a Vampire Gaze during a run. She lacked some strenght so I continued leveling some more until she finally was strong enough to wear it. The nostalgic expectations instantly faded when seeing it on her.
Even the chickens ran away in disgust. My Ama was even more clear. "What the fück!", she complained. "I can't go outside looking like that!"
She was clearly very sad. Emilio was less picky and offered that he could put it to good use, which he did.
Later that night, the ugliness still haunted me. The seed was sown and the Green Goblin was born...

Yes, beacause you couldn't see much details.
OP - Indeed, it looks ugly on Amazon. It spoils the beautiful face. If you were a Necro it could do it.

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

The Plan
With the helmet slot of my Green Goblin obviously being set, the next 2 big questions were:
1. Which character to choose and
2. Which armor to wear
The character options pretty quickly went down to Barb vs. Pala.
The search for the best armor for my Green Goblin build took some more time. Leviathan was strongest contender for a long time. While I was still not sure whether to actually make this (absolutely stupid) build - it was late in season and on ladder after all - the RND Gods gave me a sign and droppen Lemplar's Might.
After looking at pictures of Barbs and Palas in green suits for what must have been weeks, my final choice fell on the Barb. Reasons included playstyle (to be discussed later) but my main reason was: Green Goblin needs no shield! Nor does he use a big weapon! Dual wielding daggers I found acceptable though. I also considered double throwing oil potions, which I quickly discarded after a very brief test.
Driven by aesthetics only, the Green Goblin (with Templars) build now looks like this: For reference, this is the slightly different look with Leviathan: Another piece of gear was non-negotiable. I never had more reason to kill Nihlathak than on the day I made these Boots: And here he is! The Green Goblin proudly awaits jumping into action...

I considered Necro, too. But green full armors look much better on Pala and Barb. At least if you want to make a character that looks like the Green Goblin.

True that.
And despite my main character being a sorc and having no other gear, I refused putting a green towel on my head!
So imagine how I felt when having to look am my poor Ama...

I'm pretty sure that Vampire Gaze looks even worse but I have never seen a Sorc wear it for some reason.oOKIWIOo wrote: 4 weeks ago I am still undecided if a Nightwing's Veil or a Harlequin Crest looks worse on my Sorc...![]()

So who is going to make the Red Spiderman build?
The purple Power Ranger may be interesting too.

I really liked how vamp gaze looked on old school D2 graphics. Quite literally my favorite looking Helm. Then D2R came out with its new graphics and it neutered vamp gaze's appearance. I was lucky enough to see OPs Green Goblin Barb in action, leaping around, looking awesome, and being VERY green.
Great idea, executed with love for details.
I don't think I would level a Barb that high just so he can wear Templars Might and look green though
A clear lack of dedication on my part^^

Don't know if it works in D2R (never tested), but in LoD you could socket your withe piece of armor with a gem so it will color it.FacelessVoid wrote: 4 weeks ago I don't think I would level a Barb that high just so he can wear Templars Might and look green though![]()

Play Style
With the main aspects of the looks covered, it was time to consider how to actually play a Green Goblin. Obviously, the damage output was not a primary concern - which complete changed the challenge for this build. Instead of min-maxing and collecting BIS gear, I was now looking for a way to maximize style and fun!
And this is what I came up with:
1. Running fast is fun and very Green Gobliny! So I went with a point in Frenzy.
2. Jumping aroung is fun and very Green Gobliny, too! So another point in Leap Attack. With Leap, you just don't jump far enough.
3. Shooting fireballs is fun and very Green Gobliny! So I did what any sane person would do...
Many people know this but many still don't. There is an easy way to get a Lvl 18 Fireball on every character. You just need 2 pieces of Trang-Oul's Avatar. Since the Green Goblin can't use Trang Armor, Helm or the Wing, the next pieces of gear were set: Trang-Oul's Claws and Trang-Oul's Girth.
To cast those fireballs faster, dual Wizardspike was another obvious choice. Together with the 20 fcr from the trang gloves, the Green Goblin overcomes the 105 fcr break point and is now shooting fireballs at 8 frames.
Regarding jewelry, the Green Goblin was not very picky. But he likes SoJ for more damage and mana.
Amulets can be The Rising Sun (+2 fire skills), Seraph's Hymn or Mara's Kaleidoscope (for 2 skills), or The Cat's Eye (for running faster)
Almost done. There was just one last thing. Those wizardspikes were just not green...
My first idea was to socket them with an Emerald each. But
1. I did not kno if this would actually work. I still don't. If anyone knows, please tell me!
2. Having to "invest" 2 Larzuk quests on this felt a bit much, even for me.
But then I recalled someone complaining somewhere about a bug and that their weapons always turn green for no reason. The answer was hiding in the comments "do you, by any chance, use Treachery?" - the wise commenter asked, pointing out that the Venom On Striking proc does have this effect.
Sidenote: During one of my Venom procs also Fade proced, and I uncovered a weird bug: Surprisingly, not only made my Green Goblin went transparent but also the Vampire Gaze - it looked like he was not wearing a helmet at all! So I had to be very careful to not get hit when procing Venom.

Allow me to suggest a few YT channels that knows their stuff pretty darn good and have done lots of testing of both real and "movie/game" armors and weapons.Tetra wrote: 2 years agoThe real threat were maces: no one like having theirs bones crushed.ShadowHeart wrote: 2 years ago I won't pretend to be an expert on the subject, but I think I've heard that medieval plate armor should ideally be curved with as smooth surface as possible, to be better at deflecting blows (and the curved shape would probably make the armor stronger in general, too?). You don't want your armor to absorb the full force of an attack, you want it to deflect the attack to the sides or down so only a portion of the force is absorbed. Those "abs" would just help to catch a blow, wheres a smooth surface would deflect the blow downwards or to the side. Also one of the reasons why "boob armor" is probably idiotic in practice (another being that they are probably downright dangerous, if you fall over and land on your chest). Buuuut I'm definitely no expert on armor, soo... don't take what I wrote at face value![]()
The breast plates were curved to absorb blunt shocks, and knights who wore plate armors also wore a thick leather jacket under thoses plates.
As a side note: the design is unisex, there is enough space under to accomodate any cup sizes.
That why any fantasy female design with breasts is useless and even probably counter productive.

Time to jump into action! (I finally managed to make some videos)
Since I had to lvl this guy to lvl 65 (for Leviathan) respectively 74 (for Templar's Might), I was joining a lot of Baal runs. I hope my co-runnners enjoyed this as much as I did.
How is the damage? Well... Here you can see an epic fight between the green goblin at Lvl 77 against some trash mobs in a nightmare TZ (P1).
Is the Green Goblin useful at all?
Apart from horking and buffing, he can still do Andy NM runs (even though not too fast...)
Bonus: When fighting her, he becomes even more green!
