For one main skill is triggered when you die, for the other when you gain new level - I think there is no other difference (so I do not think it is important which one I am using)
One advantage of the on Death variants is that it can help clear the area around your body from mobs. Though that probably only really works for Necromancer (Poison Nova) and Sorceress (blizzard, Meteor and Chain Lightning) if you have the proper synergies.
I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.

I thought that, but when was that christmas event and there was one day with triggered Meteor for Death, i tried it and I was really disappointed, because Meteor killed the one monster and all others stayed on place (so it really didn't help to pick up body). So does facet work better?

In theory the christmas event should have been better - the event had a 100 Meteor on death, the facet only casts a level 31 Meteor on death - but I remember hearing (unconfirmed?) talk of the christmas event's Meteor not doing the correct amount of damage. Not sure actually.
Either way - for the on-death effect to have a noticeable impact, you kinda need to have maxed all the synergies (as well as the corresponding mastery, at least for Fire/Lightning). An unsynergized (and without Fire Mastery) level 31 Meteor only does 1762-1842 impact damage and 405-428 fire damage per second. A fully synergized (with level 40 Fire Mastery) level 31 Meteor does 21302-22269 impact damage and 2606-2758 fire damage per second.

I tried to see how effective the Meteor on Death was by using in non TZ Andariel, during the 22 day Christmas event using ladder to mule Paladin builds. The first one failed because my mercenary cleaned the room before Andy could kill him. The second one I stripped both the Paly and mercenary so they couldn't kill Andy, and the Meteor shower didn't even startle her a bit. So in my view there really is no benefit of a die vs a level up facet.
