Well, since no one pays me for playing it has to be a game 🤔 😁 Seriously, I think what makes this game that much successful is that, as you can see in this thread, there are multiple challenges one can set for oneself and there are multiple paths to get there.

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

It did start to feel like a job, which is why I've essentially stopped playing. At this point I'm clearing out mules to make room for actual playable characters. The constant trading, albeit fun at first, got tiring. Instead of 5 hours a day, I'm now playing only about 1-2 hours a week and my trading will essentially stop once I've consolidated enough mules.

I'm willing to accept other forms of currency. Like Tokens, Keys,
Perfect Gems
, and certain minor runes in lieu of my asking price. I'm also willing to accept rune combinations that add up to my asking price.

The latter - I buy keys all the time and sell any torch worth a
Jah
or higher. I don't farm keys myself because it takes way too long and I don't pick up most torches if they don't seem worth selling simply becuase they sit in my mule for months unless they are sorc and those I can easily give away. I don't sell unidentified, always identify. I also have a personal goal of finding my very own 20/20 sorc torch one day. Still hasn't happened but have gotten a few other 20/20 though.

On the part about min-maxing, after playing the game for years and slowly improving gear, if I stop improving gear I don't really see a point to play so I would stop. What I like about this game is that even when you have nice gear, you can still improve something or try a slight variation of the build. My pala is pretty well geared and I spend some time this week brainstorming ideas of trying out a different ring/
Circlet
combination in ubers just for funies. Getting those improved items will be pretty costly but it's part of the fun.
Don't you buy unid torches? I had a buyer who threw away each torch under 18-18 and I really miss him (I understand that torches you are throwing away are much worse, but I need a buyer).

According to "don't really see a point to play" - maybe it will change in the future, but now I am playing because I want to make other players happy. Honestly a lot of my gear and knowledge is from the one filthy rich (and the second one not filthy, just rich ;-)) guy and I want to do the same for others, even if my friends think it is a strange reason. It is cool that there are so many possible goals in this game, but I am glad that my goal can't become out of date (it will be if there will be only filthy rich and experienced players here, but I do not expect that will happen).

Item rules:

-don't buy stuff except runes
-sell perfect items, keep almost perfect items for myself
-cube
Dol
runes to
Hel
,
Tal
runes to
Ral
and sell them for
Ist
runes
-cube all runes from
Io
to
Lem

-don't cube runes higher than
Lem

-cube highlevel Grand Charms to make skillers
-sell perfect amethysts for
Ist
runes
-sell superior bases, keep perfectly rolled non-superior bases for myself (few exceptions like phase blades, bows or merc gear)
-all my runewords are self-rolled in self-found bases
-always pick up jewels, charms, amazon bows, druid pelts, staves, blue monarchs and sought-after uniques/rares/set items
-give away low rolled runewords and other gear I don't need to new players or friends

This is sage advice per/@ DasNarf

Of course there is this too.....

Friends.... find good solid trustworthy friends who still play and enjoy this game. They will help you, trade with you and gift you as well (you can reciprocate appropriately too when you find GG gear). The community is still strong, just reach out at times.

Wealth is a relative term within this game and in life in general. You know the saying "One's persons trash is another one's treasure..." It often is where you look.
Knowing what is valuable can help but this is also where having other friends appraise for "value" can be "invaluable"

Trust this helps.
Just my two cents.

Someone once told me... "Never go full Sigon's"..... Sage advice!

Always available for help/trade and maybe some freebies along the way depending on what I have and what you need

For me, it goes with some bsic rules:
-I never keep perfect items. I mean, literally perfect. (The only exception for this is an anni for my Mosaicsin.)
-Everything started with a
War Scepter
base, so mostly I hunt for bases. They are far more valuable.
-And second wave for me was a near perfect roll of a Last Wish. RWs with perfect or near perfect trade so well.
PS: I'm not filthy rich.

I'm not gonna hijack this thread like I use to do with some of them (and I apologize for doing that way too often) but this needed to be shared because you are discussing the wealth of certain items:

Edit: P.S. I would have to admit that at least 80% of my total items came from giveaways/free4u games/crazy donations and I'm like, nobody! I hate farming, grinding and killing bosses/certain zones disgusts me. I also don't play ladder, it's too much of a hassle for me (tried it twice but it was pretty boring experience)... I'm also someone who is playing D2R (as well as D2 before) in chunks and then has a long cooling off periods (like a couple of months), so there's that. I just play through the game (but not SSF I always have some items prepared for myself when I reach certain points) and I love doing off-meta tryouts. I'm actually very surprised that so far (since I never played mp part of D2 before D2R) I have founded all runes except for
Sur
and
Zod
, and I'm not even 100% sure about
Sur
, at least once. :) That's good enough for me... But all in all, can't say that my total wealth exceeds maybe 30x Jahs in total. However, most of my own earnings via trading, unlike for others that posted here before me, came from
Larzuk
socketings via this site and via in-game trades!

P.P.S. I think that also my first ever item I sold here was a close to perfect or perfect CTA in 15% ED CS base iirc (and I think it went for something like 5x
Jah
at that time) and that was one of the main reasons I even tried to go on one such place. However, after that I founded true wealth by reading plethora of very interesting topics and learning more about this game and enjoying forum and site in general with the most generous and awesome people/gamers I have ever seen/met! :)

Ma neeeeeeema veeeeeeeze! xd

Someone much smarter than me already said once: "The real value of something doesn't reflect in a number of how much a seller can ask for it, but on how much a buyer is willing to pay."

OP
I remember seeing a video by coooley a bit earlier and it made me pick up all rare items now :D
I've only ever found trash, but maybe some day...

I do wonder whether that's worthwhile at all. At least for me. :)
The time it takes to pick up, evaluate and manage everything seems a bit hefty for my taste - people who do that deserve my full praise and admiration.

I just think despite D2 being a hobby and a hobby not needing justification to sink time into it... the time to do all this is imo just a major trap for what you get out of it. Personally, I pick up all yellow rings, amulets, circlets and gloves. Gloves are even a bit of a corner case for me and I don't pick up
Boots
and I don't pick up belts. I am very much overwhelmed evaluating a ring or an amulet, let alone gloves. Doing this for *all* rare items seems very much impractical for me. The sheer knowledge I'd have to possess to not spend even more time with trying to figure out value of items... brrr.

But then again, I guess this is one of the reasons why I am not one of the rich people hehe.

On topic - despite it being a necro thread but I think it's still a cool topic to add to:

- I am fortunate one person and I found each other here who gave me a couple of items he wasn't using. It gave me an easier time to start. So far, I have been able to give a couple of things back to him that he could still need but I am on the lookout because it is a challenge all for itself to find those things. :)
- I am not "rich" because I've only been playing since around Christmas and I work and spend time with my family
- My "D2 net worth" is bunkered in items. I do not have a stash of charms or HRs lying around somewhere. I'd say my items are worth about 30
Jah
in total maybe.
- I think my two most valuable items are an ethereal
Scythe
with 313/54 Infinity which I set myself (found the base, 4-socketed it myself, traded for the runes for over a week) ... and my Phoenix
Monarch
(14 Aura/ 480-something damage) in a perfect superior
Monarch
that I found myself in WSK and traded the runes also for over a week through upgrading PGs in
Ist
in
Vex
and Tokens into HRs. I have a couple of items worth a bit too like Griffons and such... but all is relatively easy to overlook.

Personally, I do not aim to have a Mule of Jahs or so. I feel wealthy because all the characters I play are more or less decked out to a standard that feels nice to play (Blizzard Sorc,
Nova
Sorc,
Zeal
Paladin, Nostalgia
Windforce
Bowazon and a Trav Barb). I plan to have a character per class and I am eager to play Assassin, Necro and Druid because I've never played one of those before. I feel wealthy because through the game I got to know a person I enjoy talking to most evenings about the game and having an outlet and excuse to spend some (virtual) time with old friends I'd likely forget to call otherwise. For me, it's about the friends you have and those you make along the way - Items are a pretense to keep going. :)

I almost stopped picking up green amulets (I still pick up all yellow
Boots
, too - but so far, I never found something of worth). But a few days ago, after felt hundreds of the common low lvl amulets, I found another

The sudden thrill of finding treasure in trash is just why we all return to the game, innit? :)

That's why I pick them up, always hehe.

the big downside of picking up all the rares is hoarding the "pretty decent but not great" items lol

Hello friend!

It's really simple for me. I played Diablo II pre-expan, and continued to do so long after it was released. I came to Remastered knowing what to look for and how to do it, and I quickly got "rich" from a few solid base item finds. "Wealth" is generally relative to game-time, however knowing when junk isn't junk can get you "rich" fast.

Make any offer whatsoever of any runes, tokens, keys essences, pgems.
