Description

String of Ears is one of 3 belts with the damage reduced by % stat (
Verdungo's Hearty Cord [10-15%] and
Immortal King's Detail [20%] with 5 piece set bonus).

As IK is only useful for Barbarians and Verdungo’s can be difficult to obtain,
String of Ears is a great damage reduction belt that is relatively easy to farm (see @HerpaDerpaLiciousMan’s comment below for farming locations) or trade for.

The life steal % is a big plus too for any physical damage characters.

Overall, I recommend Hell for the other nice things that can drop. However, if you're not quite ready, Nightmare will work fine!

String of Ears is the only belt with a Magic Damage Reduced By affix (aside from the
Safety Belt) - and it offers a rather high bonus, at that - making it a solid choice for
Energy Shield users.
