I took my good geared WW barb and he took Smiter.

Yes you can return to town to

Revive the merc and wait for help if you need it, nothing happens. However, if the portal is surrounded by goons then it can be treacherous to get back in, otherwise it's fine.

I mean, your merc will never survive anyway, I rarely bother bringing him along, seems unfair to the poor chap.

Be kind to him and use

Salvation for meph and your merc (assuming he's well geared) can easily survive your uber runs.

You don't really need Chains of Honor, just craft a Treachery - super cheap and uber (yep, I did it) effective
