My rune mule is full to bursting point with
El
,
Eld
, ... to
Ko
/
Fal
. Which one should I keep and which one i can sell to
Akara
?
Ko
and
Fal
are quite useful, don't npc them. Either cube or you can use them to buy uniques or set items that you might need. Certain elite or exceptional weapons/armor/armor pieces in high demand that roll a good stat can be had for those runes.

I keep every rune. Start upgrading them to higher runes. Start with
El
, go to
Eld
, then
Tir
. Most the gems you need will drop frequently from normal cows. Literally went from a character full of runes to a couple ohms
Vex
a crap ton of
Pul
and
Um
a few
Mal
. That and basic runewords make more than they're worth, Spirit shields, Insights. You can do A5 Q2 and get 90% of their runes and sell for at least an
Ist
for a decent roll. And depending on who needs what atm, can make some sweet trades. Someone needed a
Lem
on Xbox and traded me an
Ist
for it. Technically
Lem
+
El
.

Xbox GT: Cinomed541 add me if you need someone to play with.

I pick up
Ral
and
Tal
(cubes to
Ral
). Then after that I pick up
Hel
and above.
7
Here's what I am doing, there's another mule full from
El
up to
Lum
. I don't cube any runes, just pick them and store them. Like if I try hard cubing from
Lum
to
Lem
for example, and when an
Ist
drop I will feel like "what's the point"....

to me it got to be
Ort
for tele recharge on puzzler, saved me a fortune so I can gamble more :(

And which of them are worth not to cube up? Such as
Ral
(for crafting).
Ral
can be used for crafting, but many runeword users need it to repair items (cube receipe)

I "cube" all very low runes untill
Tal
...
Tal
Thul
Ort
Amn
+
Hel
is called Spirit pack... actually you can find players buying x4 or more sets of those runes
If you are not interested in selling those packs you can cube everything untill
Ral
...keep and sell those
Ral
... cube
Ort
and
Thul
...and we are at
Amn
and
Sol
that are good for crafting certain rings and amulets...
Cube
Shael
and
Dol
untill you find
Hel
...
Hel
rune have special receipes and some people can buy some of those...
I cube also
Lum
,
Ko
and
Fal
...always keeping 1-2 of each as currency or for runewords... and than we have
Lem
...pretty nice for gold-farmers...
You know, 3x
Lem
+
Emerald
==
Pul
...from this point it really depends on your goals...

Until a couple of days ago, I was doing this:
  • Keep one of every rune up to about
    Tal
, then start keeping 3-ish until
    Thul
  • Keep exactly 3 of each from
    Thul
    to
    Lem
  • Keep exactly 2 of each from
    Pul
    to
    Mal
  • Keep everything starting at
    Ist
  • Keep a rainbow of chipped, flawed, and natural gems at all times
  • Starting at
    Thul
    all the way up through
    Mal
    , cube
Which eventually was a lot. And not what I would recommend for others, but my goal has always been high runes, so cubing at
Fal
was fine for me.

Then I ditched the gems and just kind of winged it for a day. When I saw the rune stash in PTR yesterday, I switched to this, which I'm pretty satisfied with (1-ish of everything until
Thul
, then spots for 3 of everything until
Ist
, but keeping everything starting at
Ist
, with the bottom 2 rows as staging space for extra HRs and runewords I'm working on):

All prices negotiable. BIN always wins. Americas (Pacific), but int'l trade times can be arranged.
7
I keep
Hel
,
Amn
,
Ral
, and
Sol
. I'm not completely familiar with the crafting recipes (somewhat new player here), but in my limited experience people like buying those runes. I've traded those in large quantities for higher runes before.

For the others, I keep them in rows of 5 and cube up once full. I don't cube anything past
Ko
or so.

TL;DR: Cube all the runes you don't want. Better than leaving them on the Ground, right?

So, when I started D2R, I left all runes below
Dol
on the Ground. Seemed like a waste. So, I starting a rune factory. Set-up and processes similar to others already described.

My contribution to this thread is, I got to thinking how long it takes to cube up a rune, so I ran a test. I started with an
El
and wanted to see how long it took to cube it up to an
Ist
. I had a random collection of runes on the way to
Ist
. When I got the 3 (or 2), I cubed it up, then set it aside until the next upgrade. What I found is that between drops and fair value trades, it took 2 weeks to cube an
El
to an
Ist
.

Now, The Maths to go from
Ist
to
Ber
is ugly, but the point is, if you have the space, the time to factory produce Ists isn't too bad. Plus, as I started with, seems better to me than leaving the Orts and Iths on the Ground.
7
I pick up every single run and cube everything up to the standard
Ist
. Rarely, I will cube up higher runes, which is only for recipes.

I'm running into the same problem with my new d2r character as well. I've kept every single rune I've gotten so far. By now it's filling almost two of my inventories. Horribly managed I might add, lol. I've been considering doing this because I really don't see any use for them outside of maybe trading for P gems which at this point I don't really need. I don't have a mule yet but if I don't H cube them I'll have to get one soon.

After writing this out I decided I'm going to convince l combine all my lower tier runes, lol. I have the early rune words for my 71 javazon (2 socket
Helm
one, 2 socket shield and 3 socket chest piece, though I was recently given a
Tal
Mask
which I now use for the leeches). My next goals are the upgraded shield and Enigma. Maybe I'll be able to trade some of the mid levels for a few of the runes I need for the upgrades.

Paladin Americas PC
Aside from
Ral
, I stopped picking anything up below
Shael
unless I have a specific purpose, like when I needed to reroll a paladin Spirit multiple times. The inventory space required of that endeavor is too great for me. Also, just to get one
Shael
only picking up
El
you’d have to pick up 531441
El
runes. I know that’s theoretical because we find other low, but higher runes along the way. Just too time and space consuming.
7
I keep 2 of each rune up to
Dol
after that it gets more complicated. I keep all Hels and use them to roll 35 FCR spirits.
Io
to
Pul
I generally keep for the sake of cubing up.
Um
,
Mal
can be traded for an
Ist
. I keep all
Ist
as base currency. All runes higher than an
Ist
are worth their weight in stash since they are essentially compact
Ist
value, so yeah... Pretty sure nobody is throwing anything
Ist
+ in the mud lol

https://armlesswunder.github.io/

I don't do trades for less than
Pul
. I accept T or H keys as well.
7
I keep all runes. I'll cube up to
Ral
, then up to
Hel
(sell these to crafters and rerollers). Then I'll cube up to
Lem
.
Lem
on up I keep as currency. I'm not sitting on a pile of HRs like some of the people here (
Ohm
, 2
Vex
, 3
Gul
, 11
Ist
)
