Description

So always been told/hear that a
Phase Blade
Grief is the best sword for a
Frenzy
barb in the game.

So right now I have a Grief that I made.
But when I equip my Grief vs my
Doombringer
I notice that in the stats screen the Doom bringer max damage is almost triple the Grief and the min damage is like a third higher.
Is my Grief bugged? or am I missing something. Surely it's not making up all that Ground on attack speed alone?

What am I missing?

Can be used to make Runewords:

Americas PC
It's called the lying character screen.
dont trust it. the way damage is calculated for the + damage from Grief is not displayed there. go test them side by side killing a few monsers. Grief is by far better!

time to throw that
Doombringer
away, your Grief will empower you all the way to 99.

Also check the description on Grief's page here on the website :)

Don't worry about the stats. Grief will set you free.

As a more complete answer, all the melee damage formulas in D2 are tuned to weapon base damage. So, for instance, a monster endgame polearm that can deal nearly 1k max damage is actually a 40ish-180ish base damage that has been multiplied a few hundred percent (3x the base damage). The +340-400 damage on Grief is counted as base weapon damage, which makes it around 3 times stronger than the highest other occurring base damage weapon, and then all the skill/damage multipliers happen on top of that.

My explanation isn't exactly accurate, and the theorycrafters can explain it better, but the concept is correct: Grief is the highest base damage thing in the game by quite a lot.

All prices negotiable. BIN always wins. Americas (Pacific), but int'l trade times can be arranged.

OP
Thanks for all the replies.
The whole damage display is really throwing me.

Thanks for the advice.

Don’t judge the book by it cover

Attack shit and judge by how effective you're killing solely.

I dunno I lucked out on a
Lo
drop and at least everything short of ubers just melted. I paid no attention to the character sheet.

Please feel free to reach out to me directly through Battle.net if you're interested in one of my items, especially if I don't respond immediately to a thread I've posted.
