Update as of December 2021
Diablo 2 Resurrected's first ladder season will begin in 'early 2022' and the currently proposed season duration is 4 months. Source
Yes, ladder seasons are confirmed. But they will not be ready on launch. They will be shorter - 'reduced from 6 months'.

We will have some more info on seasons/ladder. I would expect it wouldn't be right at launch for the start of one an more so around a diff time that we specify after launch.

A concept of the ladder window, showing new filtering/sorting options.

So we have the leaderboard where you can see each class going to level 99 - there are easier ways to filter through that. We're also looking into saving that - so that you can always look back to previous (ladder) seasons. So in a way we're creating that legacy now that has been drawn from the past.

We're reducing ladder seasons overall. Right now ladder seasons in Diablo 2 are six months - and we're looking at reducing that as well, to have more engagement and kind of drive more incentives too you know... six months is a long time, so if we make it shorter we can have greater feats throughout the year as well as seeing people strive harder to get that level 99.

Awesome preservation of this legacy feature, and good to see that improvements on exploring the leaderboards have been added. I also like Andre's reluctance on 'rewarding' people for reaching the top spot... after all that is the reward in and of itself.
