Energy Shield randomly turning off when it shouldn't

I also had ES turn off for me recently.

It appears if you receive so much damage that it burns through your entire mana pool (i.e. mana hits 0), then ES will switch off until you recast it.

I'm guessing you didn't watch the video, or read the whole forum thread? OPs ES disappears before he has taken any damage.

I have made sure it has nothing to do with casting too quickly. I have triple and quadruple cast before and still had it run out early. Casting a lower level ES doesn't make sense as the problem either, as I only cast when buffed by Memory in town (not BO buffed, though).

I know its been a while since your post, but do you remember if you had used a skill shrine at any point in your run? I did some googling and it appears there are other reports of ES time not resetting when recasting. It also appears this consistently happens when recasting ES with a lower skill level i.e. you get a skill shrine, cast lvl 42 ES, skill shrine runs out, you recast ES at lvl 40 but timer does not reset.

Battle Command can do that as well. Recasting when BC has worn off would be at a lower skill value.

I was wondering this too, but for that to be the case, I would have still had to go back to the stash and grab my Memory before buffing again with said skill shrine (which lasts a very short time because of Cure). I don't think this was the case. My initial cast is also not buffed by BC. Also this video is not the only time I've had it happen.

I haven't done any long ES sorc runs in a while so I'm not sure if it's still an issue, but more recent posts suggest it is.

EDIT: It's POSSIBLE that BC is the issue, but it would have been a series of events to cause it similar to:

New game -> Memory swap, cast ES -> go kill stuff for a while -> come back to town buffed by Battle Command and swap to Memory to buff ES again -> go kill more stuff -> come back to town NOT buffed by Battle Command and swap to Memory to buff ES (and now I'm one level lower)

Since it's so persistent for you, I think your Memory buff is ruined at the moment. Gotta cast it on the fly.
