That's why full tals for anything other than a Blizzard sorc is tough. Did the DPS end up lower? or just the max lightning attack damage?
I was talking abou DPS, from what I remeber was close but lower with 127 FCR.
I will test again tomorrow to be sure (its impossible to edit maxroll planner on my cell πŸ˜“πŸ˜“)

(damage per attack will sure be lower with 2 less skill levels πŸ˜‰)
AND the huge loss of mana that comes with the loss of 2 SOJs. You're probably better off keeping both SOJs. You're just going to struggle keeping ful
Tal
's with lightning. But I totally understand if you want a build that is different from the rest!
I remembered correctly...
105 FCR and 125 FRC does similar damage (on my build), but 105 FCR does slightly more.

----

- 105 FCR (78 BP | 2
Stone of Jordan
)

Lightning – Level 38
Damage: 3–15,569
Cast Rate: 13 frames (1.92 casts per second)
Damage per Second: 14,974

Chain Lightning
– Level 38
Damage: 3–6012
Cast Rate: 13 frames (1.92 casts per second)
Damage per Second: 5784

Mana 893
Mana Regeneration 24.8

----

- 125 FRC (117 BP | 2 magic/rare rings)

Lightning – Level 36
Damage: 3–13,694
Cast Rate: 12 frames (2.08 casts per second)
Damage per Second: 14,268

Chain Lightning
– Level 36
Damage: 3–5469
Cast Rate: 12 frames (2.08 casts per second)
Damage per Second: 5700

Mana 581
Mana Regeneration 14.8

A little history on how I end up with this build πŸ˜›

My previous build was 3 pieces Tal Rasha's Wrappings + Crescent Moon +
Harlequin Crest
(and
Boots
, Gloves and some Grand Charms just to max Resistances)

I was planning to replace for
Griffon's Eye
+ Heart of the Oak (or
The Oculus
- because already had it...)

After I remembered that
Tal Rasha's Lidless Eye
could have - 15% To Lightning Resistance (same as a poor Griffon) and 2
Lightning Mastery
(better than %ed from Griffon),
I did some calculation with the Full
Tal Rasha
's and end up with a build with more life/mana/dps/skill/fhr/fcr than the
Griffon's Eye
+ Heart of the Oak option...
(the extra resists from the set enable me to replace all my other resist itens - gloves/
Boots
/grand charms)

I'm very glad to see people suggesting
Silkweave
for
Caster Boots
. So many of the D2 sites simply ignore them, and post nearly everything else instead.
Silkweave
's are my go-to for casters and even my java when she needed mana. That said, my sorc uses Aldur's now for the much-needed fire res and life. You really can't go wrong with Silk, Aldur's, Treks or War Travs, although I'd mostly wear the latter for MF obviously. It depends what your character needs really.

Oh wow yea. -43 light res? Mine is in the 30's or 40's. Granted I have a bunch of light res charms too.
I ran an experiment with my offline level 99 ES
Nova
sorc. I dropped her light res to -40 and surrounded her in p8 souls. ES does admirably well soaking up damage from many souls. She has about 3k mana with buffs. The moment the mana gets drained she's dead. The health bar basically never moves. I take almost no damage until mana is gone (just a few points here and there), and then suddenly the light res is a big problem and she dies instantly. Res of course doesn't help with mana damage.

Offline I have tri-res
Boots
(poison, lit, fire). But I think I might swap it for
Silkweave
.

Since it looks like poison res is the only one that matters, I can stop looking for tri-res, keep my treks, and replace the
Um
in my vipermagi for a lite facet.

All trades can be accomplished via PC or xbox. All reasonable offers will be considered and probably accepted.

Do
Energy Shield
"absorb" damage before resistences are aplied??

Ex:
You have
80% dmg to mana from ES
50% resist

Take 1000 raw damage.

Do you lose 800 mana or 400 mana?

The answer is 800 according to skills/energy-shield-t4051.html / post3620206.html#p3620206

Energy Shield
diverts its fraction of damage to the mana globe before [Magic] Damage Reduced by X, which is in turn applied before resistances. In practice, this means a sufficiently powerful
Energy Shield
and a modestly large quantity of flat DRB and MDRB would ensure only poison damage is able to reach the health globe. This approach has the added benefit of mostly trivializing resistances other than poison, a noteworthy benefit in the era of Sunder Charms.
What make me think... Do Open Wounds and Crushing Blow bypass the
Energy Shield
like Poison?
(I would say that the first yes, the second no... πŸ€”)

Energy Shield
absorbs damage before resistances are applied.

Also, ES works a bit weirdly with
Cyclone Armor
(which can be cast from a self-wielded Infinity, for non-Druids), as discussed here:
forums/cyclone-armour-on-infinity-worth ... 41383.html

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.

Yes but...

If you can manage a 2/20 sorc ammy (I can't so far), you can use Que Hegans instead of Viper.

The only thing VM has over QH is a little more MDR (which a high roll on QH is close enough), and 10% FCR, which is needed if you don't have a 2/20 ammy. I just wanted to put that on your radar in case you have aspirations of a 2/20.

QH wins out on MPK and +energy.

Edit:
Ok well, to get pricey we can talk
Ormus
with +
Nova
.
7
QH is a nice alternative if you don't already have VM, but VM also has res and 10 FCR that can be difficult to replace. I socketed my VM with a 3mpk, 9eng, 10@ jewel. That works pretty well and only increases the req'd level to 33.

Ormus
is definitely the way to go for the endgame though.
Ormus
claps!

I was lucky enough to find an
Ormus
robes with +3
Nova
. However, the best sorc Ammy I've been able to come across is a 2/17. So close yet so far.

I suppose it's not worth dropping a soj to put on
Ormus
. Get that 2/20 and rock a perfect setup. What's your Infinity base?

Yea I didn't want to drop a Soj. The +1 to skills is helpful, but so is the +25% mana, especially for an ES sorc.
I went back and forth on the Infinity base (normal base vs
Eth
elite base). I ended up going with the
Eth
Thresher
base to maintain resell value. However, I've got a feel I'm not going to give up the self-wield Infinity so I'll probably give the
Eth
Infinity to a merc and make one in a normal base so I can save on str and dex.

That's where I am. I have a -54
Thresher
. Currently I'm saving up for a bunch of rolls in scythes to see if I can get close to that.

A 2/17 is not bad on a Lightning/CL sorc, as the second-to-last FCR breakpoint for those spells is 117 (and the last one is 194). :)

This is the only caster boot in my mind!

Maybe could get a gg crafted boot though
A HIGHLY overlooked item.
My ES Sorc always puts them on!
