Description

Use on the corpse of a slain monster to create a frightening totem that causes nearby monsters to flee.

Player vs Player - This will not work on other players.

Grim Ward
is a more strategic spell, used to permanently block off areas so that monsters will not attack you from that side. They can also be used to channel monsters into specific areas so that the Barbarian can deal with them in an easier fashion. Basically, it has a specific use that is effective and different from any other spell.

Although it is a corpse-utilizing skill,
Grim Ward
has unusual restrictions on which corpses are valid targets. Essentially, a corpse that lacks flesh (e.g. the corpse of a
Skeleton
or
Wraith
) is an invalid target for this skill.

Grim Ward
will not work against Super Unique Monsters and Bosses.

As of Patch 2.4,
Grim Ward
will reduce the physical resistance of affected enemies. Because certain units cannot be affected by the fear effect of
Grim Ward
, the skill cannot lower the physical resistance of those creatures.

Lore

This skill allows the Barbarian to fashion a totem out of the carcass of his slain enemies.

The resulting talisman serves as a grave warning to all of the minions of the Prime Evils.

The mere sight of the Totem causes monsters to flee in terror.

With additional training the warrior can increase the potency of the ward.

Tested it today: Works on ghosts, removes the physical immunity, at least from Minions, or if leveled enough on ghost bosses too.

Grim Ward
overwrites other flee-effects like hit causes monster to flee,
Terror
or
Howl
.

According to the Amazon Basin,

When different curse is cast on a cursed target, it will normally overwrite the previous one. Exceptions are as follows:

Grim Ward
is a very useful skill to deal with the
Baal
waves 2-4. When you have killed the first four monsters of the first wave in front of
Baal
you can use the corpses to summon several Grim Wards. Once the last monster of a wave is killed the corpses disappear, however the Grim Wards will remain. The second wave will land on top of the Grim Wards and they can be dispatched without a problem. Once you have killed 3-4 summoners you need to summon the Grim Wards again, before killing the last standing monster of the wave. In most cases the third wave will then simply not move, only the super unique will not be impacted. Repeat the same procedure for the fourth wave. In case you have summoned 4-5 Grim Wards this wave will also be standing still. The fifth wave is not impacted by the
Grim Ward
. In
Chaos Sanctuary
you can also use the
Grim Ward
to your advantage. On your way to the Lord de Sais and Venom Lord seals simply summon some Grim Wards with the dead bodies of Venom Lords along the way. In cased they are put in strategically correct positions the seal monster packs can be easily dispatched. For example, sometimes the Lord de Sais pack is just standing still facing against the wall of the edges.
