So I just found out that a White Shako and Harlequin Crest aren't the same thing

Yeah uh

I played a ton a decade ago and must've forgotten how people called

Harlequin Crest just

Shako. Saw a lobby asking for a

Shako, one just dropped for me since I saw other lobbies ask for it. I compared it to this site,

Lo and behold, people were linking White shakos for stuff like Puls. So I figured "Hey, must be a really good base. Hell, I can't find a

Monarch for the life of me so maybe.." And joined and tried to trade

We put our stuff on the table and they immediately closed and started bitching me out. I kept asking why and that they asked for a

Shako, but they refused to explain. So yeah, that's nice.

Think you guys can force people to differentiate between

Shako and

Harlequin Crest at least on this site?

Speaking of, why don't we call change the nomenclature to Crest instead of

Shako? Like my god, this was silly.

Shako as a base have only one unique which is

Harlequin Crest, that's probably why ppl call it like that. And it's kinda immpossible to change nomenclature for something that was this way for 20 years

Yeah, not much we can do about this. The D2 community as a whole picked that name 20 years ago and it's stuck. If you really are trying to trade off a

Shako base then make extra clear it's the white base item, lol.

And it's not just you, people been reporting each other left and right for being assholes about this in trade. I think as a community as a whole we all gotta step back and remember there are new people who don't know the lingo and be civil with each other.

Shako" and talking about it as if it was super rare. I thought, "That hell quality, but not terribly rare." until I realized they were talking about the Harlequinn Crest, which is a

Shako.

It is very annoying that it isn't simply referred to as "crest" or "Harq" when that would make much more sense. Unfortunately it would be impossible to get the whole community to adopt a new name. Although we could do our small part by NOT referring to it as

Shako.

on the other hand, imagine my surprise when i typed

Shako in search bar and didnt find a harlequinn crest

Been sitting here scratching my head as to why my

Shako has zero views buahhaha.

Shako is because of the limited text of game names and description. Everyone had to use short form text. Basically giving nicknames/slang to items.

Harlequin Crest's long name doesn't fit easily in a game name. Definitely doesn't help new/uninformed people but that is why some items have different names tied to them

Shako out there and became so desired that everyone and their mom wanted one (or 5) and everytime it dropped (back when that still felt rare and it was relatively much more valuable than in the later HR economy), half the game went "OMG

Shako!". It stuck.

Plus noone ever cared about a

Shako base for anything, ever. So..no real risk of confusion.

If the game had come out a few years later, we might have been calling it HCrest instead because the ubiquitous "first initial, first syllable of last name" trend took off with Jennifer Lopez's second album J.Lo in 2001.

The other interesting thing has got to be how the hell the game developers decided on calling it a

Shako because



looks absolutely nothing like



It's kind of amusing to think of how pop culture that came out after this game would have changed it today. Since we're on the topic of item bases, I absolutely would have tried to make this a thing for

Mancatcher.
