When I got back to the main diablo screen, I noticed I was disconnected from the EU servers and it wouldn't let me connect. I exited Diablo to restart it. Saw he put WTF in the chat window.
Asked him if something went wrong, and mentioned I got disconnected. He said don't play dumb, accused me of being a scammer, and escalated from there, while I tried to tell him I hadn't done anything, and I don't have some super secret hack that lets me take back an item after it's traded, and I have 200+ trades here. Asked him to double check his stash to make sure he didn't put it somewhere weird, but he just kept accusing me of being a scammer.
I might have just offered him a free Lo if he was insistent about it, but not jumping to conclusions so fast and just accusing me and calling me a scammer and not listening. But the whole thing was weird, and it was a bit insulting that he just insisted I was a scammer.
Anyway, that's what happened from my end. Welcome him to tell his side here if he wants.

Looks like the rune has been correctly traded, as the other party has edited his post to admit so in the trade thread.
With the transaction mechanism, it is unlikely that a trade through the trade window is capable of getting things done "half way", so to speak. The transaction either goes through or it doesn't, there's no such a thing as one party getting an item while the other missing a payment.

You'd be surprised by how many people play this game while under the influence.
I've had a few instances where I didn't notice I ran out of keys and thought I didn't get a rune from a trade only to find it in the Key spot--given, I check thoroughly before flipping out, but honestly, after all the drop scams and scar tissue I've got from pre-LOD, I usually just pass off a bad trade as whatever.
@varangium A Cham is more valuable than a Lo right now. He gave you a higher rune plus pgems for a lower rune. He probably wanted to get, not to give pgems for his Cham, but he somehow mixed it all up. When he realized that he made a mistake (a bad trade), he accused you of "scamming". But what you really did is "exploiting" a great trade offer. That is morally questionable but not scamming. The Cham-guy knows that of course and is just venting his anger. Just let it go.

Hey, sorry you went through all of that. That’s tough. IMO you did nothing wrong. Zero. The trade concluded, you got their offer, so logical to assume they got yours. The trade window closed and you exited. That’s all by the book. That you couldn’t then log back on could be a D2 server issue or ISP or Windows or.. pick one. Not your fault. But at any rate, the deal was done. Nothing dodgy in the lead up, terms were clear, nothing scammy, both parties agreed to trade HR for another HR. Nothing you could have done differently.
For the other guy, if we take them at their word, and if they genuinely didn’t get their rune, which I think would be unheard of if the transaction in the trade window completed - this would seem to be a new bug in D2R. Again, wouldn’t be your fault. It could just as well have happened to you. Nothing you could have done differently.
On the valuation of the runes, I think a Lo for Cham deal whether straight up trade or with some adds by either party isn’t inherently unbalanced. It’s one HR for another.. all of which trade within a range, and the situation described falls within that. It’s not a Jah for Ort situation so I don’t think there’s any issue there either.
Concluding thought. None of the above was your fault. That you considered offering a further Lo to compensate them for the apparent glitch, I think is commendable.

As some have already noted, it turns out the rune had just stuck in a small charm spot he had taken out earlier to give to another character. It was also late at night for him and he had a drink, per his updated post. He noticed later and apologized, which I appreciate.

Theres no excuse for the shamefull behavior on the other side. Something like this should get punished quickley by warning or temporaty trade ban. If he was drunk trading with you, he ll gonna be drunk trading with other people. Its a huge personal flaw not double and tripple checking everything, instead of accusing you first in that way.
Yeah, the accusation was definitely premature. If the trade window completed normally, checking the stash properly should have been the first step before assuming someone scammed you. Easy mistake to make when you're tired or have had a few drinks, but good that it was eventually cleared up and apologized for.

If you need that Grief to finish a horker barb so that you can get started farming, maybe. How many hours in Travincal for an efficient horker to make up for the value difference between Lo and Cham? Vs the hours to wait for a Lo at a better price. I never tried any of that, but I can imagine the reasoning.
And there are of course other possible reasons why you might want to reach a deal quickly.
