It actually does appear to have standard pins. Found a YT video I edited into my other response that shows a standard ATX being installed.
It appears to use standard ATX connections. It is a bit unique in having a proprietary Dell removable harness, but that would be irrelevant if swapping it out.

You can click on each instance for further details that may help.
In Start Menu you can also search for "Event Viewer". Here we'd probably be most concerned with administrative, system, application or hardware events. Sorting by "level" is probably best to group error and/or critical events.

Relatively weak, but adequate for the hardware. The 1060 likely also has an equivalent, or slightly lower, TDP compared to the 660. As long as the PSU isn't faulty, the new GPU shouldn't pose a problem in this regard.
OP had another response stating the 1060 is in fact 6-pin. As far as I can tell, there should be no compatibility issues.

put the old card in just to play and deal with crashes, games choppy and low quality, plus crashes

There are always lots of variables with a PC unfortunately. Given the sudden onset, and the age of the hardware, it wouldn't be crazy to assume an issue here.
However, a bad windows update, or windows automatically updating drivers, is just as capable of causing these types of problems.
What version of Windows are you on? And were any updates installed recently?
Seeing as how the issue now persists with the old GPU, there's a better chance we can rule out the GPU as the culprit. Though overwriting display drivers w/o scrubbing first can also cause headaches. We can come back around to this later.
I'm leaning towards RAM or Power Supply in terms of hardware. You can easily check RAM first with a free app. https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm
Probably best to launch the program and let it run for several hours when you aren't using the PC.
Does the PC need a good dusting/cleaning? If it's particularly dirty then this can contribute to various components overheating. Don't use vacuum/suction for cleaning. Best to do so by blowing air; compressed air can, a blower designed for this, or air compressor. Best to put a finger on any fans to prevent them spinning too fast; especially if you have a blower/compressor.
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game?
I've been building systems for the better part of ~30 years. Odds are we can get to the bottom of this, but it may take a bit to run through all the diagnostic steps.

This is pointing to insufficient System RAM which is causing you to then also run out of Virtual Memory. Virtual Memory is a portion of your HDD/SSD set aside by Windows for this purpose. Virtual Memory is un-ideal at best, as it is much, much slower than RAM, so it can cause system instability.
Basically, it would be best to upgrade to 24GB of RAM as discussed earlier. We can dive further and try to alleviate the issue before you do so however.
If we convert values of Bytes listed to GB, we get: ~6GB for D2Resurrected, and ~0.4GB each for MsMpEng and Chrome. So, that shows you ~7GB short, for these 3 applications, even after going into Virtual Memory reserves.
You could try closing out Chrome, and/or other programs, while playing D2R. If you have Chrome open, especially with numerous tabs, it will easily use a couple/few GB of RAM by itself.
You can also try lowering graphics settings in the game. If you are running out of Video Memory also, then the system will attempt to use System RAM; and in turn Virtual Memory. This is particularly bad and would almost certainly cause the game to crash.
To adjust Virtual Memory, type "Advanced System" into your Start Menu Search.
You'll get the "System Properties" window. Click on "Settings" in the Performance area. Then "Change" in Virtual Memory. Then we want to manually set the VIrtual Memory to a custom size for C: drive.
Assuming this value hasn't been altered already, enter Minimum to 12288 and Maximum to 24576; this is 12GB and 24GB respectively. If the values are equal/larger than this already, increase them by these amounts. We know from earlier discussion that you should have sufficient SSD space available to do so.
After entering appropriate values, click "Set", then "OK". You will then want to reboot the PC after doing so.
This may, or may not, fix the issue. I'm guessing it will only delay it; hard to say.

If you're talking about HWInfo, when you launch the program it should look similar to this:
Click on the drop-down and make sure to choose Sensors-only.
This is going to give us a bunch of real-time data as to how your system is operating. We can view your RAM and Virtual Memory usage, various component temperatures, voltages, fan speeds, etc, etc.
It may help us further diagnose problems.

If this is about MemTest, it is easier for us to use a different, but similar program to test if the RAM is faulty. The one I linked previously is more difficult to get operating.
This one will operate within Windows. This test may be moot since we have good cause to believe the RAM may not be faulty, but that you simply don't have enough of it.
Both things could be true however. If you run it, I'd set it to stop after 2-3 loops (at least). A time when you know you won't be needing the PC for a few hours, and just let it go. The PC will be sluggish while it is running anyhow; this is to be expected.

It helps to use the check boxes to filter the search. Check either 4GB or 8GB, then ECC, to hopefully narrow down your search to actually what you're looking for. Then you can drag the cost slider way down to get to the cheapest stuff.

It appears my assumptions were correct. At the time the system/manual were created, 8GB modules were not common. Theoretically you shouldn't have any issues with the 8GB.
The only caveat I can come up with potentially is the BIOS version your machine is running. We can see in that video the system dude was working on has the A17 BIOS:
We can check this from within Windows using HWInfo if you launch it in "Full Mode". A summary will pop up that should display this info, or you can also click on "Motherboard".
If you are on a different, i.e. older, version, it should be possible to update.
Dell has an executable to run from Windows to make this process simple. Basically just run the program. The system will automatically shut down and reboot, possibly more than once, and then the update will be applied. Close any extra programs/apps before doing so.
It is crucial that the system not be interrupted during a BIOS update.
I wouldn't do so if there happens to be a Wind/thunderstorm/etc. If power is lost during a BIOS update, the system may become unusable.
