Hello!
I never really upgraded items in the game until now.
But there is a trade post on this forum: How is that possible three perfect 30% ed gauntlet with 3 different defense end result?
Im not sure the base defense value was 25 for all of them, but it seems to me, there is a huge variance, even with perfect items too.
So doesnt matter if it had perfect defense value, the end result can be very different as it scale up with higher base defense values.
Is this true, as I deduced it?

When upgrading an item, its base stats are rolled again.
Crusader Gauntlets
have a range of 59-68 defense. This is the reason.

59 x 1.3 = 76
68 x 1.3 = 88

And then there's +10 defense. I don't know by heart if it's added before or after %ed.

But here you have your numbers.

For low items I also accept: Perfect Amys,
Ral
,
Hel
, Tokens, Keys. Please don't offer runes lower than
Pul
(with the named exceptions).

A magic, rare, unique or set item with +X% enhanced defense will always drop with max base def + 1.
Magefist
, for example, is a
Light Gauntlets
, and since
Magefist
has ED% the base defense will always be 12 on drop (
Light Gauntlets
defense range is 9-11, so max is 11, and max + 1 is 12).

However, when you upgrade an item via the cube, the base defense is rerolled randomly. The exceptional version of
Light Gauntlets
is
Battle Gauntlets
(39-47 def), and the elite version is
Crusader Gauntlets
(59-68). The item’s mods (like ED%) are not rerolled, just the base defense.

An un-upgraded
Magefist
with 30% ED will always have 25 defense (12*1.3+10).

When upgraded twice (to
Crusader Gauntlets
), the base defense will be randomly 59-68 as mentioned. So for a 30% ED
Magefist
, the result will be anything between 86 (59*1.3+10) and 98 (68*1.3+10).
