Can be used to make Runewords:
You can make Rabies work, but yeah, if you actually want the poison to kill things for you, you kinda need to play solo, with as few minions as possible, and utilize a hit-and-run tactic (just focusing on spreading it and then letting the poison do its thing). It might be fun? I haven't actually properly tried (I have only tried Rabies briefly, but not with all the bells and whistles in terms of gear).

I myself am planning to build a Poison Dagger necro. So yeah, poison, although not as efficient as other damage sources, has its appeal. You just have to live with the thought that you are not godlike all powerfull and have to run more. So don't give up
You will end up running with just Grief occasionally biting enemies with Rabies.FerociousTerrier wrote: 2 weeks agoThings I am just learning:

Poison damage from multiple sources is very complicated.
I'm also leanring that Venom from Grief or Treachery can do strange things to poison skills and potentially overwrite an ongoing poisoning. SMH. My plan was Rabies/Fury druid swapping to Grief/Facet shield after Bite, but Grief (and barb Merc was going to have Grief + Plague, too) might overwrite the Rabies...
Give it a go anyway ... making new builds and trying out ideas to see how far you can take them is a large part of the fun with near infinite replay options. I like playing my L80 Werewolf / Summon hybrid with Obedience even though that is hardly optimal for anything ... something about running around as a wolf with a pack of wolves following me around is just fun!FerociousTerrier wrote: 1 week agoVery disappointed with what I've learned over the past 24hr. I picked druid as my second D2R char for Rabies. At least I like Fury, and I'm brainstorming a potential Fire Bear build instead.ganseng wrote: 1 week agonot sure what is more terrible - the bug itself or the fact it hasn't been fixed since 25 years..

Yep. If non-poison non-open-wounds damage is dealt, poison is interrupted for 8 frames (online). That means Emilio's stabbing and his frost aura reduce your poison damage.
I so agree!SizzleZap wrote: 1 week agoGive it a go anyway ... making new builds and trying out ideas to see how far you can take them is a large part of the fun with near infinite replay options. My character is named "TheWolfgang" (Wolfgang is a German first name)
Playing HC SSF right now.
Hell completed: Sorc, Druid, Paladin, Ama, Assa, Necro
Nightmare completed: Barb
Iron Man (Paladin): Nightmare A1

I wish the synergies were laid out differently (like in some D2 mods) so they supported such hybrid builds.vued wrote: 1 week agoI so agree!![]()

Agree. It kind of sucks that you "have" to add a bear, too. Totally ruins the gang.

And if you have both wolves and a bear, you "have" to add ravens. And you're left with one skill to be maxed, so you play a boring summoner...
Does this 8f-poison damage pause apply to damage from Thorns / Spirit of Barbs / Attacker takes damage too?vued wrote: 2 weeks agoYep. It is implied by what you write, and seems likely from what we otherwise know about the game, but I don't think it was tested in Pavke's investigation. It would be great to know for sure, as it affects a few potential Necro and Druid builds.
Usually available after 21CET. Most of my Expansion trades can be converted to RotW, just ask.
I think so but I have no additional info at hand. Maybe someone else knows about this?NaglFarfar wrote: 1 week agoDoes this 8f-poison damage pause apply to damage from Thorns / Spirit of Barbs / Attacker takes damage too?vued wrote: 2 weeks agoYep. hmm now that i have a plausible explanation why poison dmg can be terrible would be nice to know why it can be excellent..
from my experiments mentioned above, tz Baal died in 20s without Venom once. assuming he had same stats as non-tz Baal, 370k life and 50 res, and i had -40 res, it's 20k dps effectively. and stats show only ~10k dps. how?

Does this mean that Bramble runeword if used online will actually decrease your poison damage (due to Thorns doing flat pitiful damage) instead of raising DPS? thanks for letting me know this behavior.ShadowHeart wrote: 2 weeks agoPoison is only overridden (replaced by a new poison) if the effective bit rate of the new poison is higher than the one currenty affecting the target, but yes, you're correct, only one of the two players' poison will affect any one target at any time. They can't affect the target simultaneously.FerociousTerrier wrote: 2 weeks agoI suppose if a monster is poisoned from one character and another character poisons it, one cancels the other. So you'd never want two poison-focused characters (player + player or Player + Merc decked in poison gear) in the same game as they negate each other's DPS. ???
Also, note that poison works notoriously poorly in online multiplayer games (speaking overall in general terms). Disregarding conflicting poison applications, there's also the fact that any damage done to a target by any player, merc, summon, etc, will effectively pause poison tick for 8 frames (the frame on which the damage took place plus 7 frames after). So in a game with multiple players, mercs, summons, etc hitting the same target, your poison will pretty much be ineffective because it's constantly on pause.
(the same 8 frame rule applies to monster regen)
As described by Pavke:
https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo2/commen ... _life_for/
(this only concerns online games - for offline games, regen & poison tick only stops for a single frame when a target is damaged, the frame on which the damage took place)
As far as I know there's no distinction between different kinds of damage or damage sources - any damage done to a mob should pause the poison tick for 8 frames (online). I dunno if anyone has actually specifically tested Thorns aura though (or any kind of return damage source, via either skills or gear) - but regardless, it shouldn't be a huge issue unless you're actually standing in melee range ( Thorns only works for melee attacks) and getting hit a lot.
