D2R Item Ability Formatting

This is, to the best of my abilities, the formatting Diablo 2: Resurrected uses for its abilities. I have elected to remove a few of the parenthetical phrases from the abilities themselves to put them in an entry of their own, to combine things like "+1 to

Whirlwind" and "+1 to

Whirlwind (Barbarian Only)". Upon mod request, I can shrink it by combining specific abilities for a more generalized guide (resulting in "+0 to Skill" and the like). A few entries, like "+0 other random modifiers", are for site formatting, since D2R just gives the item the abilities. The 0s are placeholder numbers and should be replaced by the correct numbers and ranges, as I removed them for ease of editing. The order of abilities on items tend to follow a consistent Pattern, but ensuring the accuracy of that list would require resources beyond my grasp at the moment. Best guesses can be made, but I would suggest obtaining images of each item in game from unedited software to ensure the correct order of abilities; the Chronicle has made this a superb way to ensure accuracy. Brackets are values not shown in game.

Errors and suggestions found while working on the data:

Errors

Charged Essence of Hatred – “Dropped” is misspelled with a 0.

All crafted items misspell “modifiers” as “modifers”.

Cow King’s Leathers’s Defense bonus on the 2 piece is incorrect; it should be a flat +100. (Requires additional confirmation; the patch notes say it should be on the full set.)

Heart of the Oak's cold damage is on the same line as the previous ability.

Hysteria and Hustle's "All Resistance +10" have a "+" at the beginning.

“Piercing Attack” and “X% Piercing Attack” are different abilities, and the items with them are inconsistent with which one they have.

Formatting suggestions

All ranges based on character level should be from level 1 to level 99. Text showing the unit increase would be rendered redundant, saving space.

Full decimals should be shown on ranges.

Fortitude’s bonus to life should be shown as “1-1.5 to 99-148.5 (Based on Character Level)” rather than “+X to Life (Based on Character Level)”.

Parentheses around ranges are redundant due to formatting.

Brackets should be used when the value is not shown, e.g. “Piercing Attack [50%]”.

The placement of “required level” for gems and runes is inconsistent.

The order of abilities on some items is inconsistent with the in-game order.

I suggest switching the order of Strength and Dexterity on items to match the in-game order. Also suggest fully expanding “Req”.

The class restricted items should have the class inside the requirements to equip instead of at the bottom to match in-game items.

Some set items have the number of items required in both the effect and the text after (e.g. on Sigon’s Gage's entry), and they’re referred to as “X set items” and “X items” interchangeably.

The patch number and expansion name are redundant, and the locations of both are inconsistent across the Database. I suggest moving them to the bottom of the entry and integrating the expansion icon into the patch number, like so: Patch 3.0 [RotW icon]. This saves screen space and moves less important information away from higher up on the screen. For entries with updated information, I suggest parentheses for updated information: Patch 1.10 (2.4), and the removal of “Data updated for N”.

Site suggestions

Sorting in the Miscellaneous Items would be better with filters for the various types of crafted items.

Change automatic formatting to deliberate formatting, as "Pattern of behavior" or "giving someone Grief" has nothing to do with the runewords.

The warlock still has not been added to the skill calculator.

Not sure what the background of this topic is but something like the above should generally not be combined into one as it is a very different stat/effect. Specifically, +

Whirlwind would grant the skill to any class while (barb only) would solely work for barbs.

Yeah, forgot to provide context. I contacted @Teebling about writing a style guide and received permission to do so. The intent of this guide is to ensure consistent capitalization and formatting (e.g. "Cold Resist +30%" instead of "+30 to cold resistance") across the site.

What I intended for the example you mentioned is that to keep the list shorter I split "+0 to

Whirlwind (Barbarian Only)" into "+0 to

Whirlwind" and "(Barbarian Only)". That way "+0 to

Whirlwind" can be used for both Chaos and

Bloodletter, but

Bloodletter would also have to look at "(Barbarian Only)", and other abilities that are specific to barbarians could also look at "(Barbarian Only)". It's not intended to be a mechanical issue, just something to look at for formatting.
