Description

Edge is a interesting runeword with some unusual stats. It's one of only two items in the game with 'Reduces All Vendor Prices', with the other being

Gheed's Fortune. This property is considered an essential item for any gambler, as it greatly increases the amount of items you can gamble in one sitting.

It's also one of two items with

Thorns Aura on Equip, with the other being Bramble. You can actually stack Edge and Bramble together to get a level 30-36 Thorns aura. This can be useful in Normal and Nightmare difficulties, but Thorns doesn't scale well in Hell, due to monsters having relatively low damage compared to their massive life pools.

The other stats are rather decent considering its cheap price: Increased Attack Speed and increased damage to Demons and Undead. However, DtD% and DtU% often aren't as good as they initially appear, since they are always treated as off-weapon ED% (even if they're on a weapon), meaning it doesn't increase the base damage of the weapon.

Why would anyone make this runeword?

The decreased vendor prices make it an excellent runeword for gambling - combined with a 15% Gheeds it significantly increases the number of items you can gamble before running out of gold.

Just equip the weapon whilst gambling in town.

The reduced vendor price mod is applied separately from the discount given by completing certain act quests:

Act 1: The Search for Cain

Act 2: Radament's Lair

Act 3: Lam Esen's Tome

Act 5: Siege on Harrogath

Quest-rewarded discounts are 10% off vendor items, but these do not affect gambling prices. Only 'Reduces All Vendor Prices' affects gambling.

A maximum item discount of 37% [10 + (90*30/100)] is possible when both

Gheed's Fortune and Edge are present, and at least one of the aforementioned quests has been completed.
