I've never tried an Act 1 merc, but it's pretty solid on Act2/5 mercs. It lasts about five minutes so after it procs once it will typically stay up until you head back to town.
The 45% IAS on Treachery helps melee mercs stay alive if equipped with good lifesteal gear.

Treachery costs Lem rune only. And it will increase your merc survival.
Other options at similar cost are Hustle (ladder only) and Smoke.
And it all depends on merc and your level. If you are doing Hell on Lvl60+ merc need resists more that ias. With such low level wearing Treachery there are chances she will not survive long enough for Fade to proc.

Get the initial proc from standing in act4 fire or Tristram house fire and you are fine. If you need another proc but the merc doesnt get the 5% from monsters, stay in the fire again.
