Description

So what's up with these 90+ guys coming into nightmare games to ruin your time by becoming hostile & going out to kill you?

I'm just minding my business, doing act 5 nightmare with 2 other guys of around the same lvl (50) and in comes a lv 92 javazon, instantly hostiles us all and attempts to kill us.
Managed to kill one of us

I make a new game.
Same guy, same thing.

I make another game,
Same guy, same thing

I've got a public game with like 7 guys now and this one POS just won't stop harassing us.

Last time this came up someone was kind enough to enlighten us that the steam (I think?) version apparently introduced some dumb-ass anti-social achievement that basically tells people to go out and Grief <insert amount here> lowbies for the easiest way to get kills/collect ears.

Given, some people are just like that anyways.
But apparently, you can now also simply thank Blizzard for that one...

Yes, there’s a Steam achievement for collecting 20 player ears. The same achievement/trophy already exists on console since D2R released over 4 years ago, and I think they copied the list from console to the Steam version.

I think a far better way to approach this achivement/trophy is to meet up with a friend and just kill each other 20 times each, but I guess some people just prefer to be assholes...

It's also entirely possible that it's "just" a griefer who doesn't care about achievements and just take pleasure in ruining other people's experience. These people certainly existed in D2/LoD/D2R before the Steam version (there weren't achivements in D2R on PC before the Steam release).

They never cease to amaze geez.
When I showed up with my warlock he was very absent all of a sudden so that worked as a deterrent.
Didn't cease his attempts to try though as soon as I left with my warlock

I'm a bit of a Steam achievement afficionado and I was under the impression the ears must be unique. If I can actually just kill a friend for 20 of the same
Ear
that would be quite simple.

Not having actually even tried this myself, there are trophy guides for both PSN and Xbox saying you can kill the same player 20 times, you just need to collect all 20 individual ears. I.e., you just need to have 20 ears in your inventory. So yes the ears must be unique as in you need to have all 20 at the same time, but they don't need to be from 20 different characters or even accounts.

What a dick. If it happens again, see if you can get some of us to come kill him instead xD

Unlikely since I FINALLY managed to kill
Baal
in nightmare with my barb.

Perhaps in the future I might make an amazon but who knows when that might be.

Thanks for the offer though :-)

If one does manage to kill you: just leave immediately. If you accidentally equip items, you might lose your gear.

I had a fool Barbarian called Massacre of lvl 80 do the same: go hostile, and also lured a ton of monsters to a town portal. Nothing happened, and we might even have killed him. Also, he kept deliberately doing his own shitty BO to half our life pools when he did join our diarun. I called him out and named him a disgrace to the community, and he seemed well-behaved after that.

(It helped I could have ripped him apart with my dual Grief, if it came to blows - I tell myself)

You can just set lvl restrictions to prevent those guys from joining.

But I understand your frustration. It's especially annoying in HC. What usually helps to join with another high lvl character. But if they stay, they are probably well equipped for PvP. So unless you know PvP and have a suitable character, you will get ripped.

Be aware of those low lvl paladin PKers. They can smash your lvl PvM character at lvl 30 or so.

Looking for a cheap Cure on D2R HCNL? I got some!

I also have 100+ crafted amulets (from cheap to gg) on D2R SCNL. Let me know what you are looking for. 🙂

You sometimes encounter PKs, but they are rare nowadays (even on HC).

IMO worse are those high levels who enter "walk" games and kill quest bosses. They obviously do this for high /players, and the introduction of the Chronicle made it only worse, since it gave incentive to farm otherwise useless low uniques.
There should be a way to kick such leechers from the game. I know, you can set level restriction, but most players don't, and it'd also prevent friendly high levels (or our own alts) from joining the game and helping.
