I very rarely lose a character. On average maybe once every six months. Most of the time it’s a Sorc and usually when I’ve been distracted and made several mistakes.
I try to counteract this as much as possible by not playing when I’m too tired, mostly farming areas where there isn’t excessive danger and by equipping them relatively safely. For example with Thundergod's Vigor and Stormshield instead of Arachnid Mesh and Spirit.
So even if I panic and click the wrong buttons, I often still have enough time to compose myself, drink a full rev potion and retreat to a safe spot.
so reading through advice, I am kinda doing all of that already. But it seems my peeps die more often than others, so I am probably less carefull. I am also less experienced, because I only started grinding Diablo 2 a lot since last year and before that probably have a few hundred hours at most
1 Death since the beginning of December (when I bought D2R). L81 Sorc that I got complacent with in Chaos. I have a new Sorc that just hit 90, so I've mostly learned that lesson =)
I do remember long time back the biggest reason for Death was surely lag. While DCs do still happen occasionally, they resolve considerably faster than they used to. Have yet to lose a toon to DC <crosses fingers>
