Is Pride a good Act 2 Merc weapon for Echoing Strike Warlocks?

No data yet

2

Description

I've seen many builds that uses Pride to boost their displayed damage. But we all know that damage numbers don't always tell the full story. ES Warlock can easily obtain plenty of damage output that wipes out most things within one or two strikes, so QoL has more weight as far as I am concerned.

Question for the previous and current Pride users out there: Do you think Pride adds much to your build? Does it make your in-game life easier?

Some concerns I have seen:

- Pride has lower damage compared to other RW such as Insight, which means your merc leeches less, hence has weaker survivability. It would be annoying if your merc keeps dying in slightly tough situations.

- Pride can "replace curses with its blinding attack and freeze effect". Is this something actually noticeable? I sure want to keep the
Amplify Damage
curse from my Heph going without such interruption.

Please share your experience and Insight.

it will depends on how you use Pride.
I am not familiar with warlock.

But for the use, Pride will override curse and it is very obvious. But it only affect 1 monster. if you want focus 1 monster and need amp, Pride is out.

Conc aura is okay but it is very similar to might aura, damage add is very similar.

if you put two merc fight , Insight merc will beat up Pride merc.

Damage wise, dual Last Wish vs Pride + might aura. That I can tell you dual Last Wish win. But it does not win the way you image, they are very similar.

I run Pride for long time, it is very good and not good in many ways.

Please be aware, all my trade is in non ladder d2r. Not warlock.

Pride
Concentration
aura will give you the largest dps gain of all the a2 merc weapon options. If you're killing stuff so quickly that your merc doesn't have a chance to get in a couple hits, it shouldn't matter what his damage is for the purpose of leeching life because he won't get an opportunity to. If you look at some of the most common scenario's where your merc would likely die, for example, getting melted by council hydras or getting swarmed by cows, life leech isn't going to help him because he simply cannot leech life back fast enough to replace life lost in those circumstances. Life leech on your merc shines against chip damage. To keep your merc alive in circumstances i mentioned above, you will need to gear him accordingly, ethereal
Guardian Angel
+ Flickering Flame for hell council, ethereal
Shaftstop
or Treachery + 20% DR
Vampire Gaze
or Delirium (curse confliction here) for hell cows. Or you will need to babysit him through the use of
Teleport
to reposition him away from danger.

Personally believe Insight over Pride early - mid game or up to until you are done with mana issues. I noticed that the mana can be a huge issue no matter if youre fire / miasma or echoing build.
Right now, i dont know what is going on but I feel like my Insight aura from merc does almost no mana regen at all. It was more powerful before and I havent exactly changed anything to affect in it. From time to time I have to actually wait for my mana to come up, its as if they nerfed silently the mana regen? No idea. Thats just from my experience lately.

But if you have no mana issues, im sure Pride could be good and useful just alone to help out dmg on merc & summon(s). Cant go wrong in that.
The only reason im using Insight on merc anymore really is that ive not found better base to make new runeword into and I have no runes to make anything :'D

Pride is a fantastic weapon for your merc if:
- Your build truly benefits from ED, more so than it would from say
Conviction
or (indirectly)
Meditation

- You do your own killing and really don't need your merc to be involved in anything
- You do said killing fast enough for your merc to never reach the front lines and put himself in danger
- You don't rely on blanket curses (if you can't reliably guarantee the above)

If not for those, it becomes quite mweh.

The conc-based ED damage bonus to yourself is fantastic, no question.
The complete lack of weapon ED for Pride itself however results in significantly lower damage and by extension leech=survivability for your merc, making him far less useful or durable than he would be with other weapon choices.
And if your merc does get to attack things, the hit blinds target starts overriding curses which is just bad juju across the board.

So yeah, depending on your build, Pride is fantastic. Bowazons are a prime example as they massively gain from the conc and shred everything ahead of them well before the merc ever gets to a target.
But for many other builds and especially something like say a tele-barb, it starts to fall off significantly as you're pulling your merc with you, getting him smacked repeatedly and by extension losing the benefit he should be granting. Plus in those "merc is actively fighting" cases, you're often better off with alternative weapons anyways, even for your own performance, as that same merc could for example instead be decrepping or amping your targets, giving you more of a boost than Pride ever could.

I use Pride on my furywolf's merc because even in Hysteria he lags behind me. The aura has an incredible range though.

Can trade on LoD, RotW, and Ladder/Non-Ladder

I remember Pride aura range is not enough.

If you move really quick or some way , I am not sure what scenario. I have long time not play might aura. But I kind of remember if you move too quick, the aura will interrupt. In the other side dual Last Wish lv 30+ dont have such problem...

And summon things, except warlock.

Nec , druid, is not work very well because of low melee attack. they are just strong meat shield.

That's true for any aura on any merc. Pride/conc is actually already on the more forgiving side in that regard.

Had that problem on my bowzon for ages because she just clears and runs too fast for any merc to keep up.
Then blizzard added Hustle (now Hysteria). The massive run speed on that gets A2 mercs to the point where they can finally keep up and stay in aura range but are still far too slow to make it to the front lines and put themselves in danger. Perfect middle Ground, basically, and since they're always just chilling slightly behind you, they don't need any other armor like Fortitude or the like anyways.

Sadly, even Hysteria plus an frw helmet aren't enough to keep an A1 Faith merc in aura range as they're just even slower and fana range sucks. So that's still not an option. But for A2 and Pride+might, it works perfectly 99% of the time.

I have been using it and i think it is pretty good. with a good demon the merc is more of a walking aura giver than anything else. I got a Might Merc with Pride and CoH and Andys
Mask
for the + skills to Might and it give a good boost and allows me to run a offensive aura on my demon to proc Cursed more. i do however need some mana leech to not run out when attacking but its a fair tradeoff
