A consumed monster counts like a demon that you have summoned for your "max demons".

With

Demonic Mastery level 20 you can have a max of 3 demons.
But if you summon 3 demons, you lose your buff from the consumed monster.
So make sure only to summon/bind 2 demons if you have consumed a monster/demon.
