I am just a curious cat and wanted to know how everyone feels. I havent gotten to play it, dont have it. Medical bills and such prevent me from getting it. I have watched others reactions on YouTube and they seem to be down the middle. So! Whats yours guy's thoughts? Give me something to read and respond too while I sit here quarantined lmao.

Speaking as someone who has certainly had his doubts about Blizz's ability to do anything in D2:R without breaking the game these days (and has been vocal about that), I feel like most people complaining about this expansion are mainly just doing so because of the price tag involved.

Personally, I'm more on the side of "I don't know a single other game that I still enjoy actively playing after having done so for literal decades so in that light, 25 bucks is nothing".

Now, in terms of the actual additions, for the most part I'm positively surprised actually.
The QoL stuff has been implemented relatively well. Could use some improvements but good enough. And it isn't overly intrusive/distracting from the original D2 feel.
Warlocks are actually quite fun albeit stupidly OP even with little to no gear (no surprise there I guess).
Warlock skill visuals are..quite good in and by themselves though weirdly, they might actually be too good. They largely match the "excessively glowing and animating all over" style of many other, older skills but they do so with what looks like just more polished and somewhat modernized visual effects. So yes, they look good. And yes, the "flashy" matches. But compared to existing stuff they do feel somewhat out of place in that they simply look "too modern/different". Not massively so but a bit.

The new items I'm torn on. Mainly, what they do is take already crazy strong builds and make them even more OP (cuz Hammerdins totally needed access to % magic damage gear! ~~) or they take already fairly obligatory items and make them just completely mandatory (sunders becoming even stronger).

Either way, all in all, I'm very positively surprised by it and by the fact that they managed to add an entire class plus significant QoL and UI changes plus a fair few items and then some, seemingly without dropping D2:R to the modern Blizz levels of disappointment.
I dared them to prove me wrong when I said they'd muck it up if they tried...and they did. Very happy about that and since I can admit when I'm wrong: well done Blizz, you got me.

In short, I love it.

So far I like playing the Warlock and exploring his skillset, although I'm not too far into the game yet. Level 20-something, but enjoying him a lot so far.

I really like the new stash features, stackable runes and gems are just heaven, with their own dedicated tabs. It leaves 5 entire stash tabs you can entirely fill up with gear to mule - low level starting sets for new characters, crafting ingredients, charms, ... I love that. One small UI gripe: when you have a full stack of gems (yes I'm a hoarder) you should be able to CTRL click it into your current open tab, shared or personal.

I adore the Chronicle system, although I am a bit miffed that it doesn't work retroactively and that my pre-existing items are not eligible to be added. But I have found a few eligible items so far, and it is very satisfying to see them added to the tracker.

Being a rather casual SP player, I haven't looked up enough information on the new items yet.

When people say "plz", because it is shorter than "please", I feel perfectly justified to answer "no", because it is shorter than "yes".

Can just confirm what was posted before.

And for me the endgame farming with the new Herald mechanic is much more fun. Sometimes I get completely drawn into it and have to force myself to stop playing cause I realized that I've gotten quite hungry or things like that 😄

That's what I've seen including on other forums. One guy went on a rant to me about how all the QoL features should have been an update patch and it's horrible to
Charge
us. I personally am ok with it. The game is old and doesn't draw in constant money, so I am fine with paying them a nominal fee (again, they could have charged us $60) for some updates to an old game and especially when it gets something like a whole new class added.

Some people... you can give them a bag of
Gold
and they'll complain about the bag.

I completely agree, there is an entire new class for god's sake. Not wanting to pay because of one's personal financial situation or other reasons is one thing, but complaining that they should have made it free is entirely ridiculous.

I love it and played the hell out of it yesterday. And I never thought I would say something like this about new stuff coming from Blizzard (we all know who is the truest evil out there, don't we?).

No MTX, no bullshit mechanics or new currencies. Just a wary modernization of the best game of all times. I am more than surprised by this.

The only thing bothering me is the splitting between D2R and RotW playerbase. This is a really bad change in my view. What were they thinking??? Weren't there no other options of having people buy the Expansion than creating another realm?

This put aside, the addon is great. The QoL is legion. Finally, crafting is fun! Everything added is well thought and made with high usability in mind. The terror zone improvements rock. Shorter cycles and better zone arrangement. The Heralds adding tension and surprise, and I am looking forward to play fully terrorized acts with my partner this weekend. They gave us more control and the Chronicle is a beast for all casual players. Now we have an ingame overview of item stats and runewords!

Didn't play the new Warlock tho, I am saving this up for the next ladder start. He seems to be totally op, but this was to be expected.

I just hope they will adress overall class balance now, and push the game to more party play, but I have a good feeling about this, too. Obviously, they have put the right people on it.

Well done, Blizzard. Keep it that way and stay in touch with the players!

This is the best part. Blizzard are notorious for stuffing MTX in everything and shoving it right in your face at every turn. I was honestly thinking they were going to stuff it into this game so it's in everything. While I do think they're a terrible company for all the wrongs they've done, I give credit where it's due.

They really didn't have any choice. If they were on the same realm, non-RotW characters would see Warlock specific drops like the Warlock set, Warlock offhands, the new Daggers (with Warlock +skills), new items granting + to Warlock skills (some are even oskills - i.e., useable by all classes, how would that even work, if a skill that doesn't exist in your version is suddenly available via a new item?). I think they wanted to avoid that headache. And people who liked D2R as it is would have been furious if they suddenly started encountering Warlocks in public
Baal
games.

This is no different from when LoD was created. People left vanilla D2 behind and started playing LoD instead. Some remained on vanilla for a time, but eventually almost everyone was on LoD. The D2 & LoD realms are still separated. How is this different? (I mean, besides that RotW is a smaller "expansion" than LoD was). Both introduced new class(es), entirely new types of items that didn't exist in the past, new uniques, new sets, entirely new skills for the new class(es), etc, completely upsetting the "meta".

I'll just add that I do see your point - it would have been nice if they somehow would have been able to keep the realms together. And maybe it would have been possible, but the amount of hoops they would have to jump through to make it work technically and to also not upset D2R "purists" probably made it not worth the effort. But that's just my guess. I'm sure it came up in internal discussions, but we might never know for sure.

Yeah, you're right, can't argue that.

"Purists" are already upset, lol. But this is a matter of fact concerning ANY form of change happening. So, nothing to get bothered with. They will calm down.

I guess this "problem" will solve over time, most people will swap to RotW, because the changes are just too good to be passed on.

Hopping back into the game now, it's rumoured there are some new items waiting to be found. :-)

I'm an OG D2 player. I've never understood the purist mindset. It doesn't hold any value. All any of us OG players had in the "pure" form was
Baal
runs and cows.

That's just the thing with purists, right? Each one subjectively "chooses" their specific preferred moment in time to dwell upon and cherish lol.

BTW I can understand the feeling, I'm a bit of a purist myself in many aspects of life haha. But not D2: a couple of months ago I came back to D2R (after 20 years) and now I'm happily joining the RotW wagon, no problem. The only I'm kinda upset is the lack of old graphics, I still preferred them (see? my nostalgia...) -- but I guess I'll just have to learn to play with "new", resurrected graphics. And I'm already getting used to it since the launch of RotW...

Anyway, I'm just yapping here 😅

As a "purist" I enjoy original D2 and current. They are different enough that they really play like different games set in the same world.

I just hope that further patching and expansions don't push D2R even further away from the core of D2 and we just end up with D3/D4 in a D2 skin.

After reading some Reddit comments, I'm glad that the devs didn't take everything the playerbase wanted into account. We would all be running around with 6 rings slots, 250 faster everything rate, free TP, everyone gets
Teleport
at level 3, every item drops already identified, no random rolls on anything(it's all just always max), and dual-wielding weapons that make Mosaic look like a "broken
Long Sword
"

We're all here yapping, discussing something we all share an enjoyment for, it's all good!

I did like the old graphics toggle but I'll be honest, I've only used it a couple times. It's possible that they could make some Warlock sprites if there is enough interest in it. I'm just happy my favorite Diablo game got more! Still waiting on that Switch 2 upgrade...

I'm happy that the additions kept with the Spirit of the game as a whole. I'm VERY thankful that they didn't squeeze MTX into the game. I get so tired of D:I players thinking that their game is superior because so much money is spent on MTX.

I've pondered on it a bit. They see how D2 has been popular even after 26 years while their new babies have be heavily criticized for not being actually fun, they may be thinking "Why reinvent the wheel, stick with what works". Maybe that's reaching.

I completely agree. The price of RotW is actually spot on when comparing to past D2 releases. Cost of Diablo 2 games at the time of their release:
  • Diablo II (1999/2000) $59.99 USD
  • Diablo II: LoD (2001) $34.99 USD
  • Diablo II: Resurrected (2021) $40.00 USD
  • Diablo II: Reign of the Warlock (2026) $25 USD
Now adjusting for inflation:
  • $60 USD in 2000 is worth ~$112 USD in 2026
  • $35 USD in 2001 is worth ~$64 USD in 2026
  • $40 USD in 2021 is worth ~$48 USD in 2026
  • $25 USD in 22026 is well.... $25 USD in 2026
D2:LoD was just over 50% of D2 Classic and D2: RotW is just over 50% over D2:R.
However, D2:R is less than 50% in adjusted cost of D2: Classic and the same with D2: RoTW when compared with D2:LoD.

I can trade RotW on xbox only, not PC.

All my
Blood Ring
and
Caster Amulet
priced at

or below are now FREE.

I love it. My only complaints so far are the chronicle not updating with your old stuff, the cube not appearing in the shared stash unless it's in your inventory (doesn't work if it's in your personal stash for some reason??), and stackables only go to 99. I also can't seem to ctrl click consumables over to stash tabs anymore, they just go right into the gem stash no matter what. I also kinda wish they made OG graphics for the new stuff so we could still press G. Mostly minor stuff that can/might be fixed in the future. Otherwise this has been amazing so far. My brain has been on overdrive for 2 days LOL

Usually looking for Runes, Essences, PGems, Tokens, Keys, etc.
Always willing to discuss and negotiate :)
