Here is something I thought about today: We already have Tristram in D2. Why not implement all the D1 dungeons there and then perhaps make them permanently terrorized for further endgame content (with all the old bosses).
I for my part would love to have some form of "D1R" in "D2R"
This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard from! A possible Act 6, leading back to the beginning.

I think Blizzard has no real intention to make D2R better. Since it is a direct competitor to D4. Of course, it could earn more money with D2R with loot filters, specialized stash tabs etc, but that would only mean that many people will have lots of more fun with D2R and never touch D4. Would be good for us D2 players but bad for Blizzard, as long as they don't fully commit to a Path of Exile financing system., which they will not do for D2R.
I don't expect much from this patch, but I hope I get proven wrong.
In my estimation the intersection of D2R and D4 players is very small which means that most D2R players are not very interested in D4 (there are some exceptions of course ). Therefore, as long as D4 does not become some D2 (and vice versa) I think it is nearly impossible to get dedicated long term D2 players to switch to D4.
Btw, my sons watched some playthrough videos of D4 some time ago and there reaction was: "Hey Dad, is this really the newer game? This looks so repetetive and boring..."
New to the party.
I played D2 since release and a lot of it. I now play it on console. I attempted to play D4 without success. I really tried to give it a fair shot, but it was trying to be a mixture of D2 and D3. It had potential but Blizzard are too focused on maximizing MTX to make it a real successor.
1) Requires a constant internet connection. This does not work for a lot of people. I can play D2 on-the-go or when the net is down without a problem.
2) D2 has a good amount of things to do. Not a lot, but not so much where it feels like they're just bloating the game with senseless things to do in order to project the illusion of varied content like D4 does.
3) No MTX! This is one of the biggest things about D2. I can play without worrying about whales forking over their tax returns so they can be invincible. I don't have to see those annoying advertisements in my face at every turn. I know that whales love to say "Well, you don't HAVE to buy that stuff...", but every time I get a rank up, I don't want to be told "You can access this if you buy our battle pass!"
4) D2 has that spooky darkness to it. This was totally taken away with D3 as that game has 0 spooky vibe. D4 tries to rekindle this but with how dense the world is, it feels like a missed opportunity. While this aspect may not be important to some people, it was part of what reeled me into D2 at the time.
5) D3 and D4 have almost no real sense of customization with skills. In D3, due to how sets work, there are many skills that never get used. In D4, it's not AS bad, but there are still skills that often go unused. In D2, there is so much more freedom on builds, where you can make a successful build with any skill you enjoy.
Yes, I know D2 was a product of it's time, but it was created back when Blizzard cared about good games, good gameplay, and about it's customers. That's not the Blizzard we have today. They're hyper-focused on funneling money and customer satisfaction is of no importance.
