Problems with offline Singleplayer

Hi all, i stumbled across a problem playing offline singleplayer while doing the holy grail.

It's the third time now, that the game decided to NOT save the last session i did. Luckily i found no high runes, but still, it is annoying.
Some good mid-tier bases are gone now which i wanted to use on my barb (lv35), also my second

Goldwrap and some other grail items like an

Eth

Thunderstroke :/

Any suggestions, that this may not happen again? And suggestions, why this did happen?
I close the game normally when i'm done with my runs

If i have that problem like 2 or 3 more times, i may stop doing the holy grail, it's just frustrating when the progress gets deleted/not saved...


I'm playing on Nintendo Switch (internet connecting is normally not active), was farming cows with my sorc (lv89), also the xp i gained wasnt saved (2 bars+ missing...)

I've never seen this happen, or heard of it happening, on PC. It could be a problem specific to Switch, maybe? But since I don't have a Switch myself, I have no clue - maybe some other member(s) here who play the game on Switch has some valuable input.

can also -not- confirm that this ever happened to me (25 years singleplayer offline PC player)... but dude, so sorry to hear. Maybe some (absolute long shot, have no experience with Switch) disk space issue?

I have enough disk space left on my switch, just checked, I also dont think that could be an issue, since the games on switch reserve a bit of disk space automatically for saving data.

Maybe it happened because i updated my switch after the runs? Just remembered i did install the new system update before i went to bed.
Not sure tho, it wasnt after the last update, but if that would be true, that could be a major issue. Only thing that was different to the last sessions.
I'll monitor and check after the next system update, if it happens again.

Any other guesses are welcome.

This happens often when you have no internet connection or unstable internet connection when moving items from a shared stash into inventory or personal.

This is also how item duping on console works, but unfortunately it also works in reverse by deleting the item when accidentally done backwards, i.e. moving an item from inventory/personal into shared stash. The way to prevent it based on my experience is to simply double save (i.e. save and exit, reenter same game, save and exit again) and DO NOT close the software immediately after - waiting 5-6 minutes or more seems to be safe, and putting the console on sleep mode without closing the software also seems to be safe.

When the console has no internet connection or is set to airplane mode and you move an item from shared to inventory/personal, and save and exit within about 30ish seconds, and then close the software or switch to a different game immediately after, upon reentering the game you'll notice the item is BOTH in the shared stash AND in your inventory (duped). I discovered this mostly by accident playing offline SP, and it only works on offline SP, and again only when there is no internet connection or is the console is set to airplane mode. But once again, if you do this process in reverse (move from shared to personal) it results in the item being deleted.

This. I never thought it that way. Sounds reasonable and logic. The game may needs a bit to realize and save the changes after a session on console.

Also i wont think i would dupe items, kinda takes the fun out of it.
But as you mentioned it, i think it happened accidently to me aswell a while ago, otherwise i cant explain why i have a yellow

Belt with the exact same rolls twice (even durability + skin lol), one on a mule and the other in the shared stash.

I can confirm that sleep mode and not closing the game is absolutely safe, did that many times, zero issues so far

So i was very cautious the last sessions, found something:
When you leave a game, around 12 to 20 seconds later, there is a small saving symbol in the bottom right corner (rotating red pentagram).
I never noticed it after runs in the menu, but sometimes in games.
Closing the game after it appeared and vanished again is safe

So guys, give your game a bit time to save progress, while playing offline singleplayer

Are you playing with the clock at all?
When I was playing with my switch and manipulated the TZ, it happenend 2-3 times that I lost a day of progress.
Stopped cheating afterwards

Do your "close" the game evertime you shut down your switch? If i rember correctly, this can cause some savegame losses.
You could simply set the switch in stand by mode or switch to another char and close the game after switching. If im correct, evertime the diablo logo is in the corner it will autosave.

I fooled alot around with the time, but i changed it everytime i had the game still open (first set it to the wished time, afterwards back). Havent witnessed a problem there so far

I thought I was tripping when I experienced the same issue online.

My mule had a stash full of

Junk Jewels and I moved several of them to the hero's inventory using the keyboard shortcut. I was saving some jewels that I thought were worth keeping.

I did it pretty quickly, quit the game, and then started with another hero to manage the shared stashes. When I created a new session with the jewel mule, the jewels I tried to save were not in the hero's inventory, but the stash had the "holes" of those that I moved. They were missing, simple as that.

I thought I had used the wrong shortcut or maybe dropped them by accident. I am usually very cautious with this stuff, but I still can't find an explanation to what happened.

Luckily the jewels weren't valuable so I didn't really care too much.
