It works. I use it. It is just a trade-off: damage vs safety. If you want to do max damage do not use it. If you want to

Nova has the problem, that you have to be near to the enemy. And I prefer the safety. I do not care about the damage, because I play almost always P1. The only down side: if you want max res it is difficult to get a reasonable amount of magic find. My build Hoto, Griffons, Storm, Viper, Thunderstorm,

Magefist, Sandstorm, Sojs and Mara gives zero MF. My primary use case is

Key farming in act 2 and

Baal

Teleport.

Frostburn gloves. The survivability is incredible.

Best shield is Spirit runeword. The extra ~100 mana, fcr, fhr, +2 all, 35% to 3 res... in combination with the skills mentioned make a huge difference.

Stormshield is probably best shield in game for slow casual players who care about surviving, such as i am. soso use... probably only with cold build, especialy in

Tal's.

Nova soso is, just my opinion, for fast players with good reflexes and will have better use of something with sockets. fire one should go for Phoenix.

Full ES and ideally self wield Infinity, then you don't have to put any stats in str.

Boost vita and Energy instead. Focus on poison res. Get Light res to at least 0, cold can be -100 and even fire can be negative as long as you have a strong enough

Energy Shield. Only poison res needs to be maxed.

Your best defense is offense.

Nova should do enough damage to at least send standard monsters into recovery while you don't have block or hit recovery animations. This allows you to either kill or tele out.

Right, when u priorize mitigation over raw dmg. In sc you priorize raw dmg then go for self wielding Infinity. Anyway sormshield is a subotimal option: less mitigation and less dmg.

Infinity can only be made in polarms and spears which are 2-handed weapons, ergo you cannot pair Infinity with

Stormshield.

If your mercenary is holding the Infinity, and you're wielding a HOTO then it can work, but you also might want to consider a Spirit for your offhand.

If you are part of the crazy cult that always uses ES then nay... Otherwise yey! xd
It's useful, as people said for safety and if you are usually playing on lower players count. It's also useful if you are maniacally TPing everywhere without any proper worry or if you like doing Sanctuary runs and you get extremely unlucky with the RNG. If you are playing on SP p8 or in big party then you want to max your dmg output which usually means you'll self wield Infinity anyways so no shield...

Conviction with Light Sorc in general (

Nova included) is the most impactful because you will be able to break most of the immunities even without Sunder (and with Sunder that sweet -17% Lres means a lot). However, I never played self-wielding

Nova Sorc myself so I don't know what ppl go for with Merc in that case.

Prayer Aura, allowing a super fast life and mana recovery and Poison

Cleansing, making the sorc surprisingly solid... in 1p, only soûls can be tricks due to high damage AND mana burn. I just put my sunder in cube in a level with them.
