Personally I find its usually worthless to craft (caster amulets specifically) before clvl 85 for this reason - most of them turn out to be junk. Sure you might end up with something good but your odds aren't very good.

I also usually only stick to Amulets that drop from Unique/elite groups in
Terror
Zones or from Diablo,
Baal
, or
Nihlathak
.

What's your clvl ?
You need at least clvl 94 for amu or clvl 92 with amu from TZ.

Amu are overcrafted, they are hard to sell if not really nice affixes.

I craft it at exactly c94.

Just it is bad luck for my first 250, either wrong class +2 , or +2 with low roll .that is worth around 10
Perfect Amethyst
.

later part, final 50, get something ok but still around
Vex
, sorc am and 1 excellent.

if that one doesnt show, it will makes it like 6
Jah
worth become 60
Perfect Amethyst
. and it will very hard to sell those 'good' caster am

That why I said it might be bad luck on first 250 craft and , yes, if you continue going, something really nice will show up.

Don't do crafting if you are intending on making a profit. It's a gamble after all...

You can of course be lucky. Although the number of possible variations is immense. In my experience, you will be lucky to get one good amulet for every 1000 craft. Especially this late on in the game.

I like your Fire Sorc amulet good job. I'd be really happy with that result for 300 crafts.

I honestly don't like crafted amulets, although I may be in the minority. It's really hard to beat a perfect Mara's, and that also boosts CTA in addition. A perfect Spirit/Hoto/Arach's/
Magefist
is already enough imo to hit the 80/105 breakpoint for palas/sorcs. I guess you could want the 125 for a pala but I don't really think it's worth it, to each their own however.

I also prefer
Mara's Kaleidoscope
personally (most of the time), but there are more cases than what you listed where an FCR amulet is necessary;
- If you want to make a 200 FCR sorc.
- If you want to self-wield Infinity as a sorc with
Nova
Ormus' Robes
and at least one
The Stone of Jordan
(two for optimized damage) and still hit the 105 FCR breakpoint.
- If you want to hit the 163 FCR breakpoint as a
Tornado
Druid with Enigma.
- If you want to hit the 102 FCR breakpoint as a Fire Traps Assassin with Enigma (you will want to have some -res on weapon and/or shield over FCR).
(and probably some more cases I didn't think of)

I'm in CET (Central European Time), so that's UTC+1 normally and UTC+2 during DST.
My profile says Ladder, but I play both Ladder and Non-Ladder.
My profile says Softcore, but I play both Softcore and Hardcore.
My Holy Grail Tracker is for Offline Hardcore.

If count on resistance and other affinx, I think, I have 2 amulet beat perfect perfect mara in 300 craft. And if it need correct class (pala/sorc), only this fire amulet beat. So yes, you are probably right, for people unlucky, they might end up spend 6
Jah
worth ends up with weaker than perfect mara.

I am trying to fix my long forget hammer paladin...ends up in upgrade my sorc equipment.

Meaning, 0 amulet in 300 that works for paladin.(2 sk 10 fcr)

Did a quick check with calculating the price for the crafting materials (in my estimation ca. 4+
Jah
) and compared it to a in some way comparable item which was actually sold.

In this case it seems it paid back 😉
But I have seen some D2 content creators who had crafted way more amulets and got nearly nothing out of it...

After a 20 year break from D2 I started playing D2R in 2024 with my sons (9 and 10 years old)

That's the problem. There are so many casters amu so the market is complete flooded by them.
In most cases, it's a long way to sell, even with a low price.

That is the reason I never crafted something 😉
I also never made a Call To Arms because you can get a 5/5/x for a
Jah
already.
I am not the guy who needs everything to be perfect and if you can get along with 90-95% rolls you can save a ton of currency (and invest it in nice giveaways) 😇😁

Well, keep in mind that most content creators play ladder*, and ladder economy is quite different from non-ladder - for starters, due to the resets 3-4 times per year, the market is not nearly as 'flooded' as on non-ladder. It might be more worthwhile to craft on ladder, especially early on.

* with the exception of holy grailers & speedrunners of course

this is what i'm doing, a slight different in the self-wield Infinity build is that I'm using Enigma instead, to keep the MF around 300

Not everybody has time/motivation to play ladder and, if I'm not wrong, OP is playing NL.

Yes, I know, I wasn't arguing that L is for everyone, I was just making a counter-point to yours about the market being flooded, since you responded to a comment about content creators, who mostly play ladder, I thought it was relevant to point out.
