Hexfire can be useful for fire-based builds (not only sorceresses) in early to mid Nightmare difficulty due to the + to Fire Skills modifier.

It may also be handy for boosting fire resistance.

Due to decent physical damage, added fire damage and Ignore Target's Defense it can be used pretty effectively for melee builds during Nightmare. Also the added Fire Res + 10 Max Fire Res are great defensive suffixes on the weapon slot.

The damage starts to fall off around NM Act 5/Hell Act 1 though.

For a fire sorc it is outclassed by Leaf. Yet for a firedruid, for example, it would be better.
