Were maphackers able to see the entire map immediately back in the day?
If so, it would disprove my suspicion that the game does a check for The Summoner's location as you you explore each branch. (This would be consistent with it seeming to be the last branch much of the time).
It also seems that if I change my routine to test a theory, it works for a few runs before defaulting back to the final branch most of the time.
However, the probable explanation for both these observations is just human perception bias - I'm seeing what I expect to see, at least initially, and when searches take far longer when it's the last branch, it feels like it's happening more frequently.

So I just did 20 runs with my ladder 3 sorc and the results were interesting. Again, mostly random but with a slight bias but to a different path.

Total

DirectionPercentage

So I'm starting to think it is random, with a bias, and that bias changes for each character.
Lanceor, when I added your data to the sheet we get this:
Direction

Total
122
220
319
422
Total83
DirectionPercentage
127%
224%

427%
So with everyone's data it is purely random. So I think it would be interesting to keep track for each of your chars that you run this to see what your bias is and maybe run that first?

Its true that if there was something it would likely have been found by now, buuut, it did take until this year for someone to find the act 4 ghost easter egg

A further 10 runs added to my table. I did runs 41-50 in a different order to see if the game "remembers" recent runs.

I've had enough of Key running for a while - I'm going to do some silly/fun stuff instead for a bit. Maybe even venture outside.

if there is a way to find him its more likely to be in the surroundings of the waypoint (i havent found anything that help)
just like with nihlatak checking the walls for red eyes to know the direction where he is at(even the minimap reveal which way nihlatak is if you know what to look for).
