By the way, I strongly recommend Cure and Insight on

Prayer merc. Heals you up incredibly fast and solves pot requirement.

Yeah, makes the play really easier. And if there's a hesitation of life leech and no possibility to get a CoH for merc (it's expensive), Hustle armor is great. Besides common benefits, it gives 6 to

Evade which allows merc to survive mostly without life leech. And it is incredibly cheap.

Skin of the Flayed One is also a nice early game option for merc, providing life leech and rep on armor.

I'm reading conflicting things online and I am in the middle of getting the gear ready.

I already have one Dream, getting the second one soon. The question is, is Beast still viable for the build or what other gear is recommended?

I was just checking below video, and i think it does. It seems it has become more viable since 2.4 hearing that attack speed in shapeshifted forms proc from all gear now instead of just the weapon.

For the

Energy Shield build i do miss the SoJ's,

Arachnid Mesh,

Silkweave and the HOTO or Doom. Further more, still missing the

Ormus' Robe as well as the CTA

I have just found another pair of

Silkweave, if you still need them just let me know (they will go for free of course).

I was looking at a Smite build and it seems the 'full build' isn't specifically cheap. Would the "Starter" setup be sufficient since that seems to be more cheap as opposed to the full build?

Yeah, it's totally possible with the starter build, smiter is made for this ! ^^
But you can enhance it a bit for pretty much nothing.
Overcap resistances for Meph with all you can (even thawing potions) and Treachery , get some crushing blow (Black, but also

Goblin Toe and Guillaume)...and dracs (for

Life Tap). TGod, ravenfrost are useful...and just do it !

Lilith is always a pain in the ass, though...careful.

Edit : Mine currently has Black,

Guardian Angel, Guillaume,

Metalgrid, HoZ, Dracs,

Raven Frost,

Dwarf Star, TGod,

Gore Rider, 2 Combat skillers, 1 Torch and random res and life charms. It's not a record-breaker, but I do Ubers easily. I started with a

Life Tap

Wand, a random torch for resistances, no skiller, in a +40@Res shield, a Helmet with

Ort Runes maybe, etc...
