Description

Not a price check, but an understanding of gear that drops overall.
So recently I've been getting exceptional pally shield and amazon bow that have perfect sup stats, but the gear is exceptional.

I don't know the market on these things and don't know to hold them.

So my question is, do I just basically gold vendor all exceptional gear that drops period? no matter the SUP (30 res) (15% ED 3+AR) or
Eth
, they are all trash?

Thank you.

As always there isn't a simple answer, other than to say that you can still get good value for some exceptional items. For example, an exceptional pally shield (e.g.
Royal Shield
or
Akaran Targe
) with max all res can still fetch you something in the
Ist
-
Vex
range, which isn't to be sniffed at imo.

A perfect superior
Mage Plate
with 3os would get a decent rune too. I'm sure others will have more examples!

There is no fixed rules like "exceptional = bad".

Usually, exceptional is less good than Elite for most stuff, so for bases on expensive runewords, you'll prefer Elite in most cases for physical Weapons (more damage) or body armor (more defense).

For less expensive RWs like Spirit, Exceptional is perfectly fine.

For caster stuff it's different, the weapon base does not matter, only the mods on them.

And for caster weapons, it's usually the trade-off between strength required and defense that will determine the choice.

Enigma is the perfect example : most prefer either a well rolled
Mage Plate
(least need of STR and as Enigma provides a lot, it allows to put 0 point in STR - that's what I do on my necro) or
Archon Plate
(most def without speed penalty but more STR req) or
Dusk Shroud
(intermediate between the two but the look is... well, opinions diverge on this).

All to say that's it's widely more a matter of understanding what most classes and categories of characters need than a straight rule, even though in 95% of the cases exceptional bases for physical attack or defense will see Elite version preferred for any expensive stuff.

Thank you guys, makes perfect sense, I had that in mind already, I figured as much but still wasn't fully positive, just want to confirm my thoughts on this matter.
Thanks again.
