But if thatās on a mercenary, you can choose any ethereal heavy armor with defense higher than 800 or 900. Archon Plate for yourself, because it is the light armor (wonāt reduce your moving speed) with highest defense (524 if normal, 602 if superior). Hope this helps.

Don't get fooled into taking an Archon Plate. Get an armor base that looks good too.
I'd rather run at -5% speed in Balrog Skin for my barbarian or Kraken Shell for an assassin (probably won't have the strength for it :/).
Looks > minmaxing
For merc, get yourself the best heavy ethereal armor you can get your hands on while being within your merc's strength stat.

If you get a PM offer, post it in the trade. Promote healthy competition instead of settling for less.
According to the Amazon Basin, armors slow down mercenaries as well as players.hhdennisdj wrote: 3 years ago But if thatās on a mercenary, you can choose any ethereal heavy armor with defense higher than 800 or 900. You are your merc's Enigma.
Besides if I could add heavy stones to my merc's inventory to slow him down I would, he always charges head first where he shouldn't. His name should be Leeroy.

+1 on the Balrog Skin, and it looks amazing (and sexy) on the Zon (w/ old graphics). If my build can't handle the STR requirements, I often go with the exceptional version instead. Archon Plate in terms of actual efficient runeword base though. But any elite light armor (esp. if superior) is also fair game, just a matter of if you want to settle for that Dusk Shroud, Wyrmhide or if you'd rather hold out and make it into an armor that is your favorite, no compromise.Queegon wrote: 3 years ago Don't get fooled into taking an Archon Plate. i literally had no idea heavy armor reduced your movement speed. ya learn something new everyday. i generally only play sorc and dont have the str reqs so i never use it.
100% this. So many people obsessed with spending everything on a perfect base for what. How is that 50 defense REALLY going to affect your game in the end.Queegon wrote: 3 years ago Don't get fooled into taking an Archon Plate. Get an armor base that looks good too.

Archon plates aren't the only bases in the game. Archon Plate looks bummy on the barb.
If you google your char d2r armor base there's threads online that will show how each char looks with each armor.
Running a big heavy Kraken Shell on my javazon, gold plated armor looks sick.
