Ber? Did you put your runeword in a blue item? Did you have your inventory open for faster teleporting and accidentally drop a gg item on the Ground? Trade something away that was worth a lot more than you thought? Tell us how you messed up in this game, there are so many ways.

I'll tell you one of mine. I died in a non-named game online (meaning the game name was auto-created like game125109423094 or whatever). I went back to get my body to recover XP and died again. I said, I will not do that again and gave myself some gear to go get my body and died again. Then I threw my hands up and said forget it and left the game to start a new one to get my body. But my body didn't have my gear!

This is a way to really mess yourself up. The game will save whatever version of your corpse is worth the most

Gold. So if you give yourself gear to go after your body, your new body may easily be worth more

Gold than the other one, even though the items are actually garbage by comparison. Your engima is lying on the Ground but the game values it as less

Gold than the vipermagi you used to retrieve it. Save quit, corpse gone.

I don't know how, but I did manage to get my body back after panicking, avoiding throwing my computer out the window, and just exiting and loading like 3 or 4 times. Eventually my engima corpse did appear, but I was convinced it was gone.

And yea, I've done all of the other things in the opening line except the wrong Enigma runeword. I've made other wrong runewords though.

When the game came out decades ago I never actually leaned into the story and learned the mechanics. At the time I was totally obsessed with trading, divulging in hacked items and hanging in the PvP lobbies.

Now I play the actual game, enjoy loot hunting, and don't even play online. I actually understand why the game is a masterpiece with the many ebbs and flows from normal through hell.

I once made a very expensive Gemmed

Phase Blade - the JahMalJahSurBerBer.

I had put 4/6 runes of Last Wish in a

Phase Blade, and then I grabbed the wrong rune by mistake for the 5th. I didn't have the runes lined up in order like I would normally do, the personal stash tab was a disorganized mess of runes, and I clicked the wrong one without realizing. Before that, and ever since, I always line up the runes in order before putting any into the base.

D2 not so much but D2r, buying it?

This is a good time for a reminder that you can join your private online game with another character by revealing the password field and using that text (GameBunchanumbers) as the game name, too.

As for my biggest mistakes, these are three that I can remember:

• Letting a hardcore character die by leaving him unattended in the Worldstone Keep while I picked up my food. In my defense, I was very hungry.
• Trying to get my corpse from
  Uber Tristram three times, naked. Ended up asking for help in this very forum. At least one Death was during the loading screen. No defense for this one.
• Finding out that
  Annihilus disappear forever if you sell them to an NPC. Hope
  Akara is still enjoying that 18/19/10.

Buriza-Do Kyanon once, very early, soon after runes were introduced. That was a huge mistake.

Also, I distinctly recall leaving a

Crown of Ages on the Ground in an online because I didn't know what it was and didn't bother to pick it up.

- biggest would be, i ve started playin it 25 y ago
- didn't notice 3y ago that bn shared personal info(real name) by default
- was hasty and and didn't put runes in exact order
- many many other minor mistakes

Not a big fail, but yesterday i lost an 83lvl hardcore necromancer by being too lazy to drink a rej potion. I murdered with

Corpse Explosion the entire screen, but then i noticed my

Bone Shield was gone and i was like 10 hp. There was a sole surviving Infidel that killed me while i was reaching for the rejuvenation

* 40MF gheeds
* combat + 3X Life GC
* 15@Res + something GC
* one other stuff
with the gambling window open

Jah but this was very early on in the game when I first started (think season one) and didn't even have Enigma etc. But now of course would rather the amulet.

Recently misplaced a 39ed jewel.

Tried to kill DCLone quickly while my wife was not far, she entered the room when it was something like 10% life, I pulled down my computer lid, and when I opened it back I was of course as dead as one can be. Fortunately I am not HC.

Yeah, I've done all that, furnishing blue items with expensive runes unnecessarily, dropping an item on the Ground when someone just asked to show the specs in the message area, etc. Still, I consider my biggest mistake is when after whacking ubers I forgot to return back to

Uber Tristram to pick up my new shiny unidentified

Hellfire Torch in an unnamed game.

Forgetting to log into battle.net and having your account deleted.

1) During legacy D2 times, I used to throw away all ethereal items, because in my head they were useless without Self-Repairing mod or

Zod rune.

2) Trying to make ladder-only runes in offline game.

3) Trying to make Insight on a

Spear.

4) Kill packs of Stygian Dolls at close range with with AoE skill.

Probably many more, but those ones came to mind instantaneously.

how is that possible? Mine is not login for 2 year and still there.

IIRC, in old LoD, if you didn't log in every 3 months or something, it deleted your characters and/or your online account. I can't remember specifically but I am pretty sure this happened to me a lot back in the old days (20+ years ago).
