No longer need to avoid Halls of Pain WP to keep Pindleskin?

Description

So I was running one of my necros thru NM to get thru nilathak quest, and in HoP to my horror! I accidentally rolled over the WP there. After cursing to myself, I finish up NM, and then out of curiosity, I relog and create a new NM game after killing
Baal
and unlocked Hell difficulty.

To my surprise (and relief)! I find that the Nilathak's Temple red portal is still active, even though I activated the
Halls of Pain
WP. Was still able to farm Pindle after touching that WP that was not to be touched in the original D2LOD.

Is this feature something that was improved in D2R as part of 'quality of life' changes? I suppose I'll be safe to activate the WPs in Hell too so I can keep the easy
Pindleskin
access? Pardon my ignorance, lol.

Yes, taking the Halls of Pain waypoint doesn't close the portal to Pindleskin anymore, in D2R.
