I would've asked but I was in a single player game. I think I need to start making my games in Lobby.

You can invite people to single player games so long as not offline.

Or let them join via friends list (if enabled).

Or send them the name and password (non-lobby games still have those, viewable on party screen).

The only time you truly lock yourself in alone is if you set max players to 1. But even then, you could still give someone the name/pass, leave and have them clear it up for ya. Game stays open for quite a while after leaving, so long as you don't make or join a different one.
