Description

Hello all! So after I found a
Lo
, I made
Phase Blade
Grief, but only had necro, sorc, pally and javazon... so now I wanted a barb to use it! Everything is ssf offline, so trading isn’t an option for me...

The barb should be lvl 85 today/tomorrow, I was initially running a
Frenzy
barb with Lawbringer off hand, arreats face, Treachery, highlords,
Lava Gout
, gore riders, frost burn,
Dwarf Star
, a crappy pally torch, max dmg & ar charms, with double +3 warcries on switch. This was a pretty good set-up with max bo and everything else into
Frenzy
and it’s synergies.

Then I found an
Eth
Gimmershred
... so I respected to a thrower (had another
Gimmershred
in my stash) with horking ability... it was underwhelming, dang Grief spoiled me.

Now I want to respec again so I can run trav for some high runes and maybe a Stone of Jordan.

What is the consensus in the best bard build and gear to do this? I think I have all the standard mf gear less war travs -can’t believe they haven’t dropped for me...them or Trang’s gloves :(

Also for my merc what’s the best? I have an upped
Guardian Angel
and Kira’s, so I could go act 2 or act 5 easy... I’d also consider an act 3 fire for
Enchant
with Flickering Flame, Spirit,
Hexfire
, and a skiller armour just to see if it’s viable!

Thanks for all input!

Can be used to make Runewords:

I was running
Travincal
super quickly with my
Whirlwind
barbarian and his A2 Might merc with Reaper's Toll (for the
Decrepify
proc),
Kira's Guardian
and
Guardian Angel
. I was never even close to dying and if Memory serves well, the runs were taking about a minute with all the horking and sifting through the loot (the slowest and most annoying part).

I also enjoy the WW barb the most. More or less same Merc setup as above but
Tal
Mask
i think.

My gear is Grief,
Shako
, Enigma (the MF runeword before that), Highlords, ML/LL Ring,
Raven
, LOH, Wartravs,
Goldwrap
(or string for survive). dual alibaba for offhand. (my
Find Item
is at 60% so nn for sticks)

Mixed Dmg and MF charms.
Gheed
, ani, torch.

Maybe 20% of my farm time but 80% of my welth collected in ladder.

Is the ww barb good anywhere else or just for trav runs?

I’d like to switch it up and do a few Choas/ball/
Nihlathak
runs if possible

I used to run my ww barb in Chaos all the time. Clear speed is not as fast without Enigma but still enjoyable. I found some grail items and high runes despite having low mf.

Cool, thx all! My thrower is still doing ok, I’ll keep using him until lvl 85 then respec to ww. I made a few switches so now I’ve got ~65mf will no noticeable drop to res or damage

Dwarf Star
(
Demon Limb
and
Life Tap
Wand
on w swap).
4 gc comb skill/faster hit rec, 1 gc comb skill/run. 5 sc damage/life related.
2nd act might merc in Fortitude armour, andriel's visage and
The Reaper's Toll
.
Find Item
51%.
he aint fast, or better say he is slow when compared with some other classes or builds, but is reliable and can do all the stuff.

@OP - My L86 WW Barb does fine in
Travincal
. Grief MH,
Doombringer
\Lightsaber off hand. Skin of Viper Magi chest, dual Leach rings, Harlequin’s,
Laying of Hands
, Anni, Highlords, War Travs. Various AR \ Dam-AR \ MF Charms

@All
Do you lose many corpses due to the Reaper’s Toll or Lawbringer’s cold damage? What about from the
Raven Frost
’s cold damage? I’ve been using my L86 WW Barb without a merc (cause he kept dying) or
Raven Frost
to avoid all forms of Cold Damage. I use Berzerk to deal with Stoneskin or when I’m lazy, I use a Lightsaber in my offhand. I’d love to re-evaluate the merc or
Raven Frost
if the consensus is that the number of corpses lost is insignificant.

Barb ww it's very good for trav run .
I got Death (deadly strike ;D ) and Oath for prevent monster heal ( both on berseker
Axe
) , skullder cause it's cheap , Loh, mara's dropped at
Travincal
;D , 2x
Dwarf Star
for fire absorb and gold find, verdungo ,
Gore Rider
, switch weapons
Phase Blade
with 6
Lem
and alibaba
Lem
Lem
/ Merc with kiara /
Tomb Reaver
3 os with
Amn
and
Guardian Angel
. Ofc barb torch, low anni .I made a cheap barb and I was not disappointed .
The flexibility off this char is really good, can drop hr for real ;D and some gold for gamble .

For the skill 20 pts in ww / 1 in bersek / 20 pts in bo and some pts in find items / natural resistances and iron skills depends of what you need ,
increase strength for equipment and vitality rest.
Good char for Travs enjoy

I wanted to add another question to this topic insteac of opening a new thread:

I have a WW Barb which I use 99% to farm and hork
Travincal
.

I use the (imho) common setup of double Grief, Arreats, Enigma, Highlord, Gores and
Laying of Hands
.

I just found some 59ED/16 Str Steelrends and wonder if they might yield more overall DMG than the LoH Gloves.

Anyone has an opinion on that?

Since the councils are demons LoH gives much higher damage against them. Still, I prefer
Chance Guards
:)

Yeah, that`s why i explicitly mentioned that I almost exclusively farm Trav :)

However, I was not sure if the 59% "overall ED" are factored into the equation the same way the 350% "ED against Demons".
If this is the case, yeah, the decision might be quite obvious. But dmg calculation in D2 is in many cases not that obvious.
In addition, the Strength and 10% Crushing Blow also add value towards
Steelrend
.

Thank you both for your opinions!

ED% against Undead/Demons is summed with all other off-weapon ED% on attack (assuming you're targeting the respective type of mob). I.e., the game doesn't distinguish between them, ED% vs Undead/Demons just has a condition to only apply based on target type.

When it comes to
Steelrend
, I think the 10% Crushing Blow will have a bigger impact than the ED%, but it might depend on other factors (your other gear, skills and stats).

Side note: ED% against Undead/Demons always count as off-weapon ED%, even when it appears on the weapon.

Thank you!

I meanwhile did some testing in the form of like ~30 minutes P1 Trav running and my subjective impression is also that I am killing a little bit faster with
Steelrend
compared to LoH gloves.

I assume, that in multiplayer games the effect of 10% CB should be even more significant.

Actually, CB damage doesn't scale with player count. I.e., on p3 (monster health = 2x), CB works at 1/2 effect.

How effective CB is depends a lot on what you're targeting. If the target has a lot of HP (council members do have quite a bit compared to normal mobs). you'll notice it more than vs standard mobs, since it's % based.

This is the damage my build does against
Ismail Vilehand
with LoH and Gores in a single player game (according to maxroll):

This is with Steelrends and Gores:

Two whirlwinds kill most of the council with
Laying of Hands
, and you get tons of fire resist as well, unless
Steelrend
can do one
Whirlwind
it does not matter to me
What i will try is
Chance Guards
though

my build is:
2 of lowest rolled Grief that I bought for a big smile and some gems
Skullder's Ire
with
Topaz

Laying of Hands

War Traveler

Goldwrap

Arreat's Face
with
Topaz

Highlord's Wrath

Dwarf Star

Rare ring with 5% ML and 15% MF
On swap
2x
Blade Of Ali Baba
for 150mf and 225gf each

339 mf and 303 gf then for horking 639mf and 753gf
fire and lightning res are maxed cold is at 62 and poison 44
hp i have 3361 after shouts
pretty much don't need to use any potions ever, because fire damage does nothing to me

Edit.
So I did couple runs with
Chance Guards
and the dps drop is obvious, that being said 40mf and 200gf is pretty big.
My fire resist is below 50% now and mana gain seems to be lower as well, but when it comes to my survival it isn't that much different from before.

Personally I prioritize Killspeed over MF. My Barb has 189 MF through Enigma, Gheeds and some small charms and 491 MF on switch (Dual Isted Ali Babas).

My main focus in Trav are Runes, Charms and Jewels and for those MF does'nt help.

I might, however, adjust this setup a little towards more MF when Trav is terrorized and the real good stuff can potentially drop. Imho non-terrorized Trav drops are rather uninteresting.
