+3 Bow/Crossbow Grand Matron Bow...do I trade as is, or risk the socket roll myself?

Oh, didn't know that's how it worked. Interesting. Makes me think the developers thought max sockets would be the most desirable at a baseline.

Anyway, all signs continue to point to cubing, then.

You have a 20% chance of getting something usable/sellable. I say that + the rush is worth more than a few pgems.

I think it would be 16.6% chance at 4 sockets. Dice rolls 1-6 and if it rolls 5 or 6, you get 5 sockets in this case since it can't roll 6 sockets. So basically a 1/6 chance at 1-4 sockets, and a 2/6 chance at 5 sockets.

That said, 5 socket is usable, so if you look at it that way, it's a 50/50 on not being completely useless!

No, 5 is max. What I'm saying is, any time you use the cube to roll sockets for an item, the game essentially rolls a 6 sided dice to determine what you get. Any number that rolls that cannot be achieved will just result in the max possible sockets. For example, if you cube an

Archon Plate (which has a 4 socket max), and the dice rolls a 4, 5, or 6, you will get 4 sockets.

This roll is okay roll, you get back your spend with 1-2 week sale time if you have no problem let it occupy your storage.
This bow is super big, 8 space.

These chances come up periodically, and you're usually better off taking that chance in case it hits. Rule of thumb for the game - take the shots. Most of them won't turn out, but some of them will and it comes out ahead.
