Hello everyone,
i'm planning on building a Nova Sorc with Infinity weapon and when i compared prices for 4 os bases in the market place, i wondered why Eth bases are way more expensive.
Speaking of stats, i know that you want to avoid putting unnessecary points in Dex/Strg. But the 41 Strg/41 Dex req of a non- Eth Scythe is reached with non-perfect Anni/Torch, not to speak of some Lskillers with Dex/Strg or Rings/Amu.
So is it just about the cool look?
As far as i know, the charges can't be refreshed on Eth items, so my question really sums up to: Is lvl 21 Cyclone Armor charges on Nova Sorc really so bad that you don't use it at all?
Thanks in advance

Can be used to make Runewords:

Infinity is the best in slot weapon for Desert Mercenaries (Act 2). It supports elemental damage builds.
A mercenary do not lose any durability in melee. So an ethereal weapon can be worn earlier und does more damage.

For my trades I expect Lem as lowest rune (exception Hel).
Otherwise please offer Perfect Gems, keys or essences.

OP
It's not about the usage on a merc. It's about using as for the -lres as main wpn on a Nova sorc

I use an Eth Scythe because of the look and because I found an Eth (0os then 4os) before got any non- Eth.
pm me here (d2. Io) for trade
@numarunPretty sure Blubbalutsch wants to self-wield and it's a perfectly fine meta build for Nova sorc.
I'd use non- Eth polearm/ Spear myself. It's cool to look at when transparent, and you'll never use the Cyclone Armor but it still at least leaves you with that option. Also bonus points for non- Scythe, if you can. Make one in Trident or the long-ass Spetum or whatever. You'll be getting the head-turning since we are talking about looks here.
The biggest hurdle is getting to 105 FCR, which means perfect 20FCR amulet or no SoJs (instead FCR rings).

If you get a PM offer, post it in the trade. Promote healthy competition instead of settling for less.
Yes. Yes it is.Blubbalutsch wrote: 2 years ago my question really sums up to: Is lvl 21 Cyclone Armor charges on Nova Sorc really so bad that you don't use it at all?
A lvl 21 Cyclone Armor Charge absorbs a measly 280 damage.
The thing is, that's 280 damage BEFORE anything else. Before Energy Shield. Before resistances. Before anything.
If you don't use Energy Shield and only have the usual 75 res, the absorb from the full Cyclone Armor is equivalent to 70 life points which is already pathetic.
If you have a mediocre Energy Shield to go with it for say 75 absorb, then the 280 absorb from Cyclone Armor is equivalent to 17 life and a minor amount of mana.
It really isn't even worth casting imo.
The "for the looks" factor of an Eth base far beats that if you're someone who prefers the Eth look.
And since it will never lose any durability (unless you actively melee attack with it), there's no other reason to not go with Eth.

Thanks for the answers, that explains it

I went through the same thought process, ended up going Eth and don't regret it, its all about looks though. Good luck on that roll
We really need a lightning-shaped Spear in the game...
Using skillers with Dex/Str is also "unnecessary stats";Blubbalutsch wrote: 2 years ago Speaking of stats, i know that you want to avoid putting unnessecary points in Dex/Strg. If you need less of these stats, then you can use more skillers with health or FHR or anything else instead.
Sure you could get there with anni/torch, but really the question is... What do you gain by using a non- Eth?
If you think the non- Eth looks better then by all mean use this one, and get your anni/torch...
But if you're gonna use charms/other items just to get the STR/DEX you're lacking, then you're not being optimal, and should definitely go with the Eth version.
It never a question of lower str/dex req.
Magefist, arach, skin of viper need more Strength.
Sorc has 25 dex at lvl 1. The lowest torch + anni will give her enough dex (25 + 10 + 10 = 45).

NO. Death IS MALE.
First person to tell me the reference gets my appreciation (sure you'd prefer a Ber but hey, that's an easy one).
(Darn it Death should be upper case as well but auto linking make it fail).

Hogfather?
Yup, or many of that author indeed.

Iāve been playing around with an Infinity Nova sorc and by far the best is the self wielded version! Unless you have both griffons and eschutas with facets I guess.
Whatās your set-up? Iām still leveling (currently 88), once I get into the 90s I want to see how much mf I can get to.
Right now Iām rocking a Skin of the Vipermagi, Shako socketed with +15 mana regen, a 2/10 rare ammy, fcr rings, arachs, frostburns, and some caster crafted Boots. I have a torch, anni, 2 +lightning skillers and the rest of my pack are resist charms, I also have a Memory on swap (just a plain Memory, still waiting for a +3 Energy Shield base to drop)
It seems to be the best set-up, I tried the full 200 fcr version, but her damage went down and mana usage was so high I had to constantly chug pots (merc had Infinity), then I tried the self wielded 105 fcr, it was good, but I dropped magefists for frostburns and she still casts super fast and has enough mana not to need to pot.

I raised similar sorc last winter, and chose non- Eth Halberd for the cause. Why non- Eth? Bc I don't get the idea of "ethereal looks more mystical, magical, thus cooler..." It's still a weapon, and with material one I can always swing some mob just for the hell of it. Or to cut a regen from occasional dclone. Besides, Halberd looks more noble, when stained Scythe just ruins the look of archon-clad, griffon-wearin mage.
Never regretted my choice, and never I'll switch back to Scythe infi (yes, I tried one to compare, but declined for the reasons above).
Stats requirements? Come on:
1) Dex - 25base, 40 from torch-anni - more than enough;
2) Str - 10base, 40 torch+anni, and some investment. CoH ap requires some stats, and viper leather isn't my choice. Besides, I use Spirit at swap, not some Splendor/lidless. But yes, you can go this route ( Scythe+viper+Splendor) and have 0 str investment, if preferred.
P.S: Forgot to mention - my sorc isn't Nova. Charged Bolts + lightning. More than enough for me even at current 65% fcr. Nova path will require 105% at least, meaning viper+some fcr ring.

This just dropped for me today on SC Ladder. For some reason an Eth Thresher and Giant Thresher are considered ideal bases for an Infinity. I did notice the user requirements on strength and Dex are lower and the damage is considerably higher. So I can see why it might work out well for a merc.
Please post offer in item trade before adding me on Bnet, I'm in EST time zone (E Coast U.S)
FWIW, for even lower requirements you can use a Trident.
